[REVIEW] Banobagi Vita Genic Lifting Jelly Mask

Banobagi Vita Genic Lifting Jelly Mask Review:

Facial sheet masks have been gaining so much popularity and there are so many to choose from with very wide ranging prices. Sheet masks are yet to be a regular in my skincare routine. I use it to pamper myself occasionally or when a perk-me-up is needed. I would rather spend the similar amount on a bottle of, say, moisturiser than a box of 10 masks. Some converts however do swear by the wonders that regular use of sheet masks have done for their skin.

I have never hear of Banobagi before, and soon discovered it is the name of a well-reviewed South Korean aesthetic clinic in Gangnam. So the sucker in me was thrilled to find another cosmeceutical brand to try out! The highlight of this mask is liposome, which allows effective absorption of the ingredients by the skin. It comes in 4 types – Hydrating, Lifting, Whitening and Brightening. I will be reviewing the lifting mask today.

Each box contains 10 sheet masks. There is a brown circular authentication sticker on the box. Recently I have been reading that there are fake Kbeauty products out in the market because of their popularity. So in general, if you are not purchasing from the physical stores, do try to get your items from trusted sellers or look out for any authentication seals if available to give you the peace of mind.

The jelly refers to the thick essence that the mask is infused with and not the material of the sheet. This sheet itself is made of cotton, as with most of the facial masks out there. Although in recent times, we have been seeing more of other types of masks such as hydrogel.

Other sheet masks that I am aware of come in volume of 20ml – 25ml. This has 30ml. And yes, it is soaked full of the essence in the package and dripping wet when I took the mask out. Not to be wasteful, I applied the excess essence on my neck and arms. It feels very moisturizing.

I like the fit of the mask. It covers my entire face very well, landing slightly beneath my jawline and also adheres well. Rather than to show you a photo of it on my face, since everyone’s face are not the same, I instead took a measurement of the size of the mask. It is approximately 21cm in diameter. The cut-outs for the eyes, nose and mouth are also just right for me.

After leaving on my face for 25 minutes, just a tad longer than the recommendation, the mask was still damp. However, do note that it is not advisable to leave the mask on your face for too long or till it dries up. This is because instead of your skin soaking in the goodness, a dried mask will instead be sucking moisture from your skin and thus will be counter-effective.

This is a picture of the slightly damp mask after I have it removed. There will be a layer of the essence left on your face. You do have to gently pat to let your skin absorb, or it will end up feeling like a layer of glue. I did not pat in the essence on my jawline and it felt extremely sticky when touched thereafter. Other than this, my face feels refreshed and moist.

I wonder if it is just me or that is how the essence is because of the viscosity. I can still feel a thin film after 1 – 2 hours. It is somewhat like a sleeping pack. Since it does not irritate me, I just leave it. Otherwise, you can choose to wash it off if you mind the slightly tacky feeling.

I put on the mask at night a couple of hours before bedtime. The next morning, my skin felt smooth and look brightened. My skincare products also seem to absorb better. Sadly, I do not see any firming effects. It has been the same since I started using 2 months ago. Perhaps I need to use this more regularly, rather than the current fortnightly?

I like the mask for its fit and the plentiful essence, as well as the reasonable pricing. There are some similarly priced masks that I have come across which did not seem to be as good in quality.

As an extra to my skincare routine, this is good enough. I may even consider adding this to my regulars, to see if the 20,000ppm of vitamin complexes can help my poor troubled skin. Hopefully over time the claimed outcome will be more obvious.
