[Review] COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser Review:

I did not have a skin routine (believe me I never had a proper moisturizer and cleansed my face with soap and I am 22 years old ) until end of 2016 when I realized that I had horrible skin and it will continue to get worse if I don’t take care of myself. I was simply looking for a basic and affordable cleanser. I was quite sick of overpriced western beauty products in Australia. This was my entry into k-beauty which I am now a big fan of.

I have heard about COSRX brand from pretty much everyone including Charlotte Cho of Sokoglam and how affordable, simple and yet effective it was. Boom, it was quite affordable, like $11 AUD. Researching further into COSRX and their product line, I found that their prices were good as well as pretty much all of their products had good reviews. Also, I wanted to stick to one brand for developing my basic skincare routine.

Claims:

  • Contains skin purifying ingredients.
  • Makes skin soft, supple and clear.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin.

Nothing to fancy here. I like it when products keep it real as opposed to promising the sun and moon.

Ingredients:

Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Polysorbate 20, Styrax Japonicus Branch/Fruit/Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Saccharomyces Ferment, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Leaf Extract, Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Allantoin, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Betaine Salicylate, Citric Acid, Ethyl Hexanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium Benzoate, Disodium EDTA

Not a chemist here. But japonicas are native to Korea, Japan and China. It is generally good for skin conditioning. On the other hand, it has some tea tree and various leaf extracts which help to calm the skin down from acne.

Volume:

150 ml, which is quite lasts for about 3-4 months if you use pea-sized amount twice daily

How to use:

I use it every morning and I also, use it as a foaming cleanser in the evening after mixing it with water

My Skin Type: Normal Skin

COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser Review:

In my experience, because I have normal skin, this cleanser is very gentle and does not strip any oils from my skin. As you can see from the pictures, the cleanser is clear and texture is quite lightweight. It is definitely not a heavy-duty cleanser and please do not use it to remove heavy makeup, even with the double-cleansing method. The foam is not very frothy and its foam is of low density even when you mix it with water.

Because of that, I use my cleansing balm to melt away all makeup and then, use this cleanser with an electrical facial brush such as the one below. The denser or frothy the better the cleanser would be to remove makeup since it contains soap. However, the downside it strips your skin of various oils.

COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser Review

I have used this product since February. I will say the botanical extracts in the product has calmed by skin and I have noticed a small reduction in the pimples and even if they occur, they tend to calm or dry out quickly. That being said, if you have severe acne, this cannot help on its own.

As the description says, it is a very good morning cleanser (no pun intended). It does calm your skin down and the smell is very very very slight. Remember, artificial fragrance basically irritates your skin.

But I do not use this is a multi-functional as some bloggers might say. If you want to remove makeup using this cleanser, you need to go with the double-cleansing method and use a very good cleansing balm or oil first.

The product does lives up to some of its claims. It does contain skin purifying ingredients and which can prevent acne, but not a one-stop acne solution though. It does make the skin soft and supple. I haven’t noticed my skin drying out unusually.  For those with sensitive skin, I would recommend this but only use a pea-sized amount to see if you get any reactions. For clear skin, it does help but again, it is not a non-stop solution. I will say if you were to use this product as part of your routine to get clear skin, then, I say “Go for it, Sista!

Conclusion:

Value for Money: 10/10

Yes compared to so many overpriced Australian brands and also, other k-beauty brands, it definitely value for money when compared to its benefits. Similar to Origins Checks and Balances Cleanser, which costs $31 for 150 ml.

Oil Balancing: 8/10

Cannot fully comment on it. But this hasn’t stripped my skin of any oils. I think it might a different story for those with dry kin.

Cleaning: 6/10

Perfect for removing residue and oils in the morning.

Light makeup removal with an electronic facial brush like bb cream if used after cleansing oil or balm

I would recommend it to those with normal, oily or combination skin type looking for a hydrating cleanser or those who want to start a skincare routine. If you are looking for a makeup remover cleanser,I would suggest the following steps.

  • Use a cleansing balm such as Banila Clean it or cleansing oil
  • Wash away the cleansing cream and residue on your face
  • Wet your face and apply a slightly-larger than pea-sized amount COSRX cleanser depending on how much makeup you have applied and gently massage
  • Wet the brush head of your electronic facial brush and brush your face with it.
  • Wash your face and dry with a microfiber cloth.

If you have sensitive skin, use a silicone face brush (hint: google it) instead of electrical facial brush.

If you have dry skin, use a teeny-sized amount first and give it a trial and see if it works.
