[Review] Etude House SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser

Etude House SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser Review:

I have been on a small mission of evaluating the products of the Etude House Soon Jung collection. Since they are focused on sensitive skin treatment, healing, prevention, and all sorts of stuff, I can’t just change the products and decide on spot whether they work or not! So, although these reviews are taking longer than a normal product would, they are letting me know with all accuracy what works from this collection or not.

Regarding cleansers, I usually don’t like foam cleansers, I prefer gel or – like this one – an already bubbly mousse or whip cleanser. So, since this is also for sensitive skins, I thought I should stop using aggressive cleansers, and for one week in a row I only used gel or cream types of cleansers. The reason for that is if I had used an aggressive cleanser for a long time, my skin would be red and irritated, and we wouldn’t be able to know how gentle it is on the skin. So, after that, let’s see how this journey goes.

Claims:

Whipped cream-textured cleanser with weakly acidic bubbles for moisturizing facial cleansing. (in my personal opinion, as you will see in the photos, it’s not whipped cream textured but simply foam textured)
The whole collection claims to reduce skin irritation on sensitive and damaged skin.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Propanediol, Lauryl Glucoside, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Panthenol, Madecassoside, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Ethylhexylglycerin

How to use:

Apply 2 to 3 pumps on a wet face, and massage gently until all your face is washed with the foam. Rinse with lukewarm water.

My Skin Type: Oily T, dry U, sensitive, blemishes easily, and allergic.

Fun fact, in Portugal we call foam cleanser to this kind of cleansers, which already come out as foam. At least we did three years ago when I was there last time!

Well first things first, I was surprised to see that the product was leaking! It wasn’t leaking when it first arrived and I have kept it in appropriate storage so I don’t know what happened. I’ll just count it as opened from an earlier date (for skin safety). But it bothers me, why would a new and closed product be leaking??

So, since it’s a whip cleanser then of course the opening is a pump which you press to get the product out.

The first pump needs to be stronger than normal, since you basically need to open the product (inside) with it. Lots of cleansers don’t have a “date after opening” but this one, since it’s ingredients are without additives, is 10 months after opening. Thus you needing this extra protection on the first pump.

The mousse that comes out is very light weight, and of course has no scent. The whip is also so watery once it touches the skin that it slides down easily, as you can see in the photo.

On my hand I added water and massaged it. It scrubs gently and without any stinging. Also, as your skin loses the water you had there at first, the cleanser becomes more like a mousse. After cleansing, there’s no red spots and no irritation, and the skin is of course not moisturized, but not dry nor dehydrated either! It’s a really comfortable feeling of being clean and not dry, very few cleansers made me feel like this.

So, now I’ll show you the progress, as I have in the same collection Cica Balm review. Since it’s a cleanser, the most important things to pay attention to are how my pimples react, how my blemishes react, and whether the skin is dry or not.

As you can see, to put it short, from the first application to the last photo my skin didn’t react to the cleanser. It has been calm, and not getting irritated at all since the first time I used it, and in no day in between have there been any reactions to it.

I even spent a weekend away, where the water and air are different, and my skin has been equally calm all through the journey. I would put more photos in this collage, but it has been equally healthy so… If it was equally unhealthy believe me there would be a million photos! And a complaining writer!

If I may say, this is by far the best product in the Soon Jung collection, and for sensitive skins the best affordable (and easily accessible) foam cleanser around. To me, this one definitely takes the crown out of all the collection, and I hope to purchase it again soon just to keep it in my own home’s personal stock.

  1. I’ve tried it and I absolutely love it! It’s the first foaming cleanser I’ve tried that doesn’t suck all the moisture and oils from my skin, so happy days 🙂
