[Review] Jung Saem Mool Artist Eyeshadow Palette in Modern and Chic

Jung Saem Mool Artist Eyeshadow Palette in Modern and Chic Review:

I thought long and hard about purchasing this product. I’ve been told several times here in Korea that I’m a Cool Winter skin toned. And I didn’t really believe it until I put on (cold) burgundy and purple eye shadow on two mighty different days, and felt prettier than with orange, pink, or even neutrals. After realizing that maybe other people’s opinion might be a little right sometimes, I decided to purchase a good eye shadow set or palette that went perfect (in color and quality) with my MAC neutral eye shadows.

That’s when I encountered this brand. It’s generally of just as good quality as MAC and the colors seemed to be exactly what I was looking for! So I splurged, and started using it. It’s one of the few eye products I didn’t buy for the package! So it is worth reading.

First things first, it doesn’t open with a button push, nor does it lock at all! It simply… closes (imagine that said with Master Shifu’s voice). So the palette is a block that closes. You’d have to see it moving and with sound to understand what I mean completely…

The inside is simple, it has the color number and name on the inside. The photo turned out weird, this palette is really violet, burgundy, aubergine, purple, whatever you want to call it! You’ll see later when it’s on my skin.

I need to keep the protection because if I scratch the protection as it is, imagine how it would be without the protection, poor shadows. How I do it though, I will never know.

Always keep this piece, save it religiously, better safe than sorry, stuff like that.

This is their suggestion. It works on most eye types (both mono lid and double lid). However, I have awkward hooded eyes and so I found another way of applying these colors. It’s below, on the swatch photo.

The base on my skin tone is an obvious choice. Also, hooded eyes usually have settling everywhere on the eyelid, plus the corners, regardless of a makeup fixer, so the more natural the color looks the better. In my case, this one is the indisputable base! Then I can use the Lavender color next to it as a cold toned colored base. The one on the far right to me cannot go fully on the lid, so it can’t be a base, but it can be on the inner half of the eye, or on the center, or under the eyebrow – and that’s why I called it a highlighter.

Also, this eye shadow palette was designed to match mono eye lids the best, and things that match mono eye lids uuuusually match hooded eyes just as well.

So, to describe it properly, these formulas they used have almost no awkward settling on my hooded eyelid. They are less fluffy (satin-y) than the matte formula from MAC but these mattes last slightly longer than those. The pigmentation of the central colors is amazing, you don’t even need an eyeliner if you don’t want to (I never use it with this).

As you can see, after “doing the photoshoot” I removed the eye shadows and the stronger colors remained and had to be cleaned a second time.

My final thoughts? Worth every cent of it. And I know another foreigner here in Seoul who agrees with me and has her own Jung Saem Mool eye shadow favorites!
