[REVIEW] My Beauty Diary Alps Edelweiss Ultra Repairing Mask

My Beauty Diary Alps Edelweiss Ultra Repairing Mask Review:

I am such an avid fan of My Beauty Diary. No words can describe how much I adore this brand. I was out in the sweltering heat for the entire day in sunny Singapore and was afraid of the damage it would do to my skin. Although I applied sunblock (SPF50+ PA+++), I did not want to take any chances. I decided to use this mask to hopefully neutralise the damage to my sun-soaked skin.

I got this in a box of 8 at my local Guardian because I was attracted to its romantic packaging and its pastel purple tones. It looks so sweet and when it comes to sheet masks, the more the merrier!

Claims:

This mask technology is typical of many of MBD’s sheet masks. It has a triple action formula which allows for better skin penetration and absorption of the essence – Aquaroad, Tinysome and Cosphingo.

  1. Aquaroad: Activates skin’s moisture absorption channel
  2. Tinysome: Allows full delivery of potent ingredients
  3. Cosphingo: Seals in the effective ingredients to provide long-lasting moisture

This combination thus allows for instant permeability and seals in the essence so that the skin remains hydrated and fresh. Yay!

This mask claims to calm and regulate the skin. It contains Centellae herba, Scutellaria baicalensis georgi, Licorice, and various high-mountain plant extracts that can relieve itching and redness of the skin caused by dehydration. It helps to regulate the skin condition and relieve it of irritations. It is especially recommended for red, dry and sensitive skin (seems like it can be used to treat sunburn).

There are some also some impactful ingredients for skin healing which I have listed in the table below:

How to Use:

  1. After cleansing and toning, peel off the pearlescent paper and apply the sheet mask on your face (pop it in the freezer for a more refreshed feel!)
  2. Leave on for 20 – 30 minutes before removing the mask
  3. Massage gently with your fingers to facilitate absorption of the remaining essence
  4. Follow up with your usual skincare routine (you do not need to wash it off)

My Skin Type:

My skin is oily and acne-prone but with a dehydrated base. I am unsure if I experienced any sunburns but it is always good to pre-empt the symptoms

My Beauty Diary Alps Edelweiss Ultra Repairing Mask Review:

As usual, MBD’s packaging is simple and pretty. It reminds me of the meadow scene in the film ‘The Sound of Music’ haha. When I opened the packaging, there was a slight floral scent, which was very soothing and calming. The adherence was great!

Many of you may have encountered this before – you have a sheet mask on and can’t control your sneeze. That happened to me and although I sneezed, the sheet mask still stuck to my skin, even at the mouth area. Only slight adjusting was required after the epic sneeze.

The fit was also great, especially around the eye area. I absolutely hate when some sheet masks tend to have an ill-fit and the essence would burn my eyeballs *cries*. However, there are no slits. If you find that you need to adjust some areas, I suggest using a scissors to cut some slits at the sides.

The thickness of the sheet was somewhere between thin to medium, with a smooth texture that reminded me of high quality tissue paper that can be found in 5-star hotels. Essence was abundant both on the sheet mask itself as well as in the packaging.

I popped the remaining essence in the fridge to be used later. I had the mask on for 30 minutes before I reapplied the essence to prolong my masking session. The essence is of a milky nature, and has a medium viscosity.

When I took off the sheet mask, I was immediately amazed by how white my skin became. I reckon there were some whitening effects, but it wore off after 5 minutes and I’m very sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. The other benefits more than made up for this disappointment though, because my complexion improved and my skin felt soft and hydrated.

It took about 3 minutes of gentle patting for the essence to be fully absorbed, and I followed up with my pre-serum, essence and moisturiser. I also noticed a dewy effect on my skin

The finish of this mask is not tacky and can be used in the day as well. I used it at 5pm as I had to go out in the evening and my makeup glided on smoothly. Since the main claim of this mask is to repair damaged skin, I think it did quite a good job by providing adequate hydration and by smoothening the complexion.

The application of this mask was also very soothing. The dewy effects lasted for about 10 hours. Despite it being a hydrating mask, it did not break me out as some masks which are too hydrating tend to clog my pores and turn me into a pimply girl.

This is perfect for sunburnt peeps, and can be used for all skin types. If you are experiencing skin damage caused by sunburn, I would recommend this mask, along with My Beauty Diary Aloe Vera Sheet Mask to repair and calm your skin.

All in all, there are 3 positives – hydration, smoothening and calming. The 2 negative aspects lie in its abysmal brightening effect and short-lived benefits.
