The Face Shop OIL CLEAR Sheer Pink Mattifying Pact SPF 30 PA++ TROLLS EDITION Review

[Review] The Face Shop OIL CLEAR Sheer Pink Mattifying Pact SPF 30 PA++ TROLLS EDITION

The Face Shop OIL CLEAR Sheer Pink Mattifying Pact SPF 30 PA++ TROLLS EDITION Review:

I love characters. And to me The Face Shop always has the best collaborations! Not only because of the characters themselves (because I don’t necessarily care for some of the characters – like the new Trolls for example! I’m old school and like the old trolls), but because they have an exquisite way of designing their products, emphasizing the best of each character. In this case, they were even the reason why I watched the new Trolls movie to begin with!

The first product I wanted to try was either the mattifying pact, or the sebum control compact. Because I have always wanted to try these from this store, and now I have a good excuse to try it, right? The product itself is the same as they always have in their normal package, but with cuties like this I feel that it’s a better time to get the product! Let’s see if it lives up to expectation.

I also compared with the other sebum/mattifying pacts from the same store, so that you can form your opinion properly.

The Face Shop OIL CLEAR Sheer Pink Mattifying Pact SPF 30 PA++ TROLLS EDITION Review:

First I’ll explain my choice. There’s a pact and a powder from the same collection, and with the same colors. I chose a pact because I have been using the Innisfree No Sebum powder (reviewed) and although I love powders, they’re dangerous to carry inside the bag of an artist. Once it opened and it got everywhere! So, knowing that this powder and this compact from The Face Shop were basically the same, I thought to try the compact for once.

Another explanation is, why did I choose a colored one instead of the sebum control pact which has no color? Because the sebum control pact with no color has no sun protection, and I like to add as much sun protection as I can. Although, don’t worry! I have swatched all three colors (well, two colors and colorless pact) below, so you can actually see how it works!

You cannot see it here, but this compact is a little heavier than I anticipated. But it’s also very cute, and not that heavy anyway.

Opening the pact, one of the things that guarantees it’s the “same usual old” The Face Shop clear mattifying pact is the embossing in the center. It’s the same found in the other pacts, and very unrelated to the Trolls. But that has the advantage that, if you like this product, you can later purchase another one and put it back in this cute box, since they fit perfectly (they’re the same, so of course they do).

The scent of this specific one (Sheer Pink) reminds me of summer cosmetics. It’s nice and not too intense, and it’s a scent I’ve ran into a lot of times since I was little.

I’m showing the puff even though it’s pretty standard. It’s fluffy and hard enough to carry the product in it. It kind of feels like a fluffly, hard in the center, face towel!

Here I had to apply a lot (like 5 or 6) of layers of each of the pacts for them to show in the photo, but at least now you can see why their colors are important. Of course, in case of doubt you can choose the colorless one, but as I said it has no SPF.

The importance of the color is that (in my case) the peach color looks awkward, as if I was trying to add a tanned color through the powder, instead of assuming my natural color. Also, if the color doesn’t match it settles in your wrinkles and pores and shows a different color than yours.

You can also see that the pink color is a perfect match for my skin (it looks lighter because of the extreme amount of layers I applied), and that the colorless one stays colorless regardless of the amount of product you apply. The peach color has two tones a lighter one (in the photo) and a darker one (203). It doesn’t make much of a difference, but if your skin is a little darker it’s better to get the second one.

At first I thought this compact would feel like the powdered foundation my mother used when I was young, and which I sneaked in to try when she wasn’t looking, but it doesn’t. It feels like a light powder, and it flakes easily into a powder when you pat the compact. For that same reason, people who can’t use sebum control powders (or other pacts) because of flaky or dry skin also can’t use this compact.

If I had to compare it, it feels as light as the powder from Innisfree, and feels a little less “compact foundation” than the one from Tony Moly (just for those who know it).

Specifying the colors, the pink one gives a natural coverage, the peach one actually brightens (almost like a highlighter) and the transparent one is, well, transparent at all times).

The Face Shop OIL CLEAR Pink Sheer Mattifying Pact SPF 30 PA++ TROLLS EDITION Review

I use it on top of foundation, and this compact color blends in quite well with it (especially if you don’t over apply layers of it), so it’s the same as being a transparent sebum control pact. This pact, as does the Innisfree powder, also refines the skin texture a little more.

The feeling of sebum on my face (when I touched my skin with my hands or with the cushion puff) disappeared altogether as soon as I applied it. The shine on my skin disappeared when it comes to looking greasy, but the skin still shines, as a matte foundation would make your skin “still shine” to a certain extent.

Although the feeling of a non greasy and not sticky skin lasted until my next cushion and sun cream re-applications (every 4h) the shine started appearing again before that: normally between 3.5 hours to application time it would start appearing a little, but if I sweated a little (during the heat hour) the shine appeared fully before the 4h were up. Of course that is also due to it washing off a little when my skin perspired.

However, when I used this pact with a less moist cushion (the first one was as moist as a moisturizer) the sebum free look and feeling lasted 100% until I re-applied the cushion – around every 5h. With this cushion at around 4~4.5h the skin was a little less matte, but still not in an unpretty way.

So, my schedule was:

Really moist cushion (Nature Republic cushion CC natural): every 3~3.5 hours after the first application, and every 2 hours during heat hour (from 12 to 4) with a cushion reapplication before
Stronger coverage cushion (Labiotte Classic Made Fitting Cushion): every 5h, without cushion reapplication

The Face Shop OIL CLEAR Pink Sheer Mattifying Pact Review

One day after I left school, at around 6pm I reapplied it to see if my friends noticed it, they didn’t notice what it was but they said my skin looks pretty. That evening to night time application lasted until I did my skin care without any change in shine (with the Moist cushion, around 4h).

Honestly I didn’t use this pact without a BB, CC or at least good sun cream. The reason for that is because this pact has talc, and talc can be really aggressive on your skin. And since those products have a re-application time then at that point you also put more pact on your skin.

I bought this to replace my sebum control powder in my bag, so it’s not a matter of whether I would buy it again or not. It’s a question of “am I satisfied with it?” and the answer is that yes, yes I am! When you use the puff, the pact flakes a little like a powder, so it’s light and can be used as easily as a powder could. It’s what I was looking for!
