Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Review:
I heard about this product from multiple Instagrammers in the Asian beauty community a few months ago. I was in the market for a new sunscreen as the EltaMD UV clear SPF that I had picked up from my dermatologist’s office seemed to emphasize my skin’s texture and dry patches.
I had heard through the Asian beauty community grape vine and my own research that Asian sunscreens were superior to US sunscreens in both appearance/finish and UV protection. So, it was time for me to change up my SPF game and bought Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence.

Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++ Review:
Apparently, this has something to do with the fact that sunscreen is considered an over the counter drug here in the US and is therefore regulated by the FDA. It seems like this would be better, right? Well as a nurse and someone who participates in drug research trials, I can tell you that it is very EXPENSIVE, TIME CONSUMING and DIFFICULT to get a drug approved by the FDA.
So it doesn’t surprise me that we are behind on the SPF train. Per the Public Access to Sunscreens Coalition “the FDA has not approved a single sunscreen ingredient through the TEA process since the creation of the program in 2002.
The UV filters Bisoctrizole and Bemotrizinol, for example, have been widely used in Europe and other countries since 2000 and have proven to provide broad-spectrum formulations for more efficacious products.” Basically, the UV filters that the US is using in our SPF are dated.
Coming to the review, I use this as the last step in my skincare routine (so after my moisturizer but before my makeup). The texture is watery, leaves no white cast behind and leaves your skin feeling and looking hydrated.
It’s probably the most lightweight feeling sunscreen I have ever used and does not smell like an SPF though it does have a slight alcohol-like fragrance. However, I don’t feel that the scent is very noticeable and it dissipates quickly. This product also makes an AWESOME make up primer.
This is my HOLY GRAIL sunscreen AND makeup primer. I know that there are a lot of people who have concerns about the alcohol content in this formula but I personally don’t find this product to be drying or irritating (and I have dry and sensitive skin).
This helps my foundation apply smoothly because it’s so hydrating. It also is completely sheer once blended which is great for people who are being photographed with a bright flash. Before this product, I used to dread putting on SPF. I didn’t look forward to the smell, the chalky feel and residue that most SPFs leave behind.
Ever since I purchased Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen, I find myself looking forward to applying my daily SPF. The best part? This product is very affordable. It is about $12 from online retailers. I have bought one for my sister and my cousin who are both enjoying it as well. Will repurchase over and over again!
