[REVIEW] By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water

By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water Review:

When talking about exfoliating toners, Pixi Glow Tonic would first come to mind, as it is one of the earlier ones to emerge and quickly became a cult favourite. Then came The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, at a fraction of Pixi Glow Tonic price and with a bigger volume. What these two have in common is that both contain glycolic acid, which has the smallest acid molecule and can be irritating to sensitive skin folks.

By Wishtrend then has came up their own gentle exfoliating toner targeted for sensitive skin, which is the By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water. Mandelic acid has the largest molecule structure therefore it is the least to cause irritation because it penetrates the skin more slowly than glycolic acid. It also has anti-bacterial properties, which can help with inflammatory acnes.

I have tried both Pixi Glow Tonic and The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. I really enjoy the one from The Ordinary, but not so much with Pixi Glow Tonic. I like having an exfoliating toner in my routine, so when I saw By Wishtrend launched this product I thought of trying it to see how it compares to the previous two that I have used.

By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water comes in a sleek dark opaque plastic bottle with a white twist cap. The texture is clear, watery and has a medicinal scent to it, almost kind of like alcohol though this product does not contain alcohol.

Once applied, it feels comfortable on the skin as it absorbs pretty fast and does not dry down tacky. However it does sting a little over open wounds. It is also definitely not drying, at least for me. I feel like it adds a nice layer of hydration.

After polonged usage, I find this product works effectively at gently exfoliating my skin. I used this almost everyday in my night routine with no irritations (but bear in mind that my skin is already used to stronger acid strength). I did not notice any difference in my skin tone / pigmentations or if it helped with my occassional pimples, but it definitely kept my skin texture smooth and clean.

What I like about this product is that it does not irritate, works gently yet effectively, feels comfortable on the skin and I kind of dig the medicinal scent. But having said that, I will not repurchase because I find it to be pretty pricey for the volume we get compare to other exfoliating toners out there. If it came in a glass bottle then that probably would justify the higher price. But that is just my opinion.

However if for some reason my skin suddenly could not tolerate glycolic acid, then I would definitely repurchase this, as I know it is non-irritating yet effective.

I would recommend this for all skin types especially those with sensitive skin, and also to those who are beginners to chemical exfoliation.
