[REVIEW] Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner Pencil Pillow Talk

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner Pencil Pillow Talk Review:

I have always been kind of skeptical of lip liner – what is it really supposed to do? Why do you need it if you are just going to put lipstick over it? Do you just outline your lips or do you actually fill them in? Recently, I had a chat with a makeup artist, who highly encouraged the use of lip liners as a base for lipstick to make it stay in place and last all day.

She recommended that I get lip liners in three essential colors – one n*de shade, one classic red, and one dark burgundy – to really match the whole spectrum of common lip colors out there. Since I am a more of a MLBB girl, I decided to go for the classic n*de first to test out whether lip liners are actually that useful, and then go from there. What better n*de lip liner to get than the classic Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk?

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner Pencil Pillow Talk Review:

When I think of Charlotte Tilbury, Pillow Talk is probably the first thing that pops into mind. They are absolutely famous for their Pillow Talk lipstick, which is a classic n*de pink – to the point where they have created an entire Pillow Talk lip line.

The Lip Cheat comes in typical pencil format, with a useful block of color at one end showing the actual shade of the product. You do need to sharpen it, so make sure you have a sharpener on hand if you decide to get this product.

Packaging-wise, it’s simple and does the job – I don’t ever bring my lip liner out for reapplication so I don’t really find luxurious or attractive packaging necessary at least for this product.

The lip pencil swatches very true to its color description: it is a very simple n*de pink that actually matches my lip color perfectly to the point where I sometimes have trouble finding out where I have applied it simply because it blends so well with my lips.

I like to outline my lips first – depending on the look, I might overline my cupid’s bow slightly – and then fill in my lips. I find that small, light strokes work best; you do not need to press hard to get the pigment on.

The finish is a comfortable matte; it’s definitely not drying. One thing I appreciate about it is that it provides a smooth canvas without sinking into my lip wrinkles.

This brings us to the main question – does the Lip Cheat really have any effect onto the longevity and wear of lipstick? I used this under a similar n*de-pink liquid lipstick, a rose-hued regular bullet-style lipstick, as well as a clear gloss, to test it out.

I would say that it worked best for the regular cream lipstick in extending its longevity and preventing bleeding. I didn’t have to reapply as frequently throughout the day; even after eating, my lips were still perfectly tinted.

Like I mentioned earlier, it acted as a great base for smooth lipstick application. For both the regular and liquid lipsticks, I found myself not worrying as much about precise application, since I already had a very accurate foundation to work from.

It didn’t do too much for the gloss, it simply evened out my lip color. While the lip pencil is not drying, if you use a drying lipstick, it sadly may still may your lips crack by the end of the day.

In the end, I find myself grabbing for it a lot more than I would have thought. The Lip Cheat is easy to use, non-irritating, and makes my lip colors last longer – what more could you want? Even on days where I want very minimal makeup on, I will use this product alone with my regular lip balm to give myself an easy barely-there lip look.

Contrary to my initial concern, I haven’t really added extra time to my routine by putting this on – once you get the hang of it, it only takes a few seconds to pop this on first before lipstick.

This is definitely a very solid lip pencil that does everything that it is supposed to, and I will definitely be getting the Lip Cheats in a few more shades!

  1. I always loved the idea of lip liner: it is a lipstick base that also lets you make your lips more symmetrical and helps you control your lip color! But so far I only liked the MAC liners and who can afford that honestly
This one is in the same price range but it definitely also seems to live up to it in quality!
