[REVIEW] Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette

Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette was purchased by Cosmeperks.

When talking about eyeshadow palette, I prefer western brands than Asian brands. Personally I think that western brands usually have more pigmented eyeshadows. They also make a lot of shades, from natural colors to the popping bright ones, from matte to sparkling finish. So, when I got the chance to try this shadow palette out, I immediately said YES!

On last October Colourpop brought us a vintage My Little Pony collection. One of the product in the line is Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette that comes in an adorable packaging (the one that can not be denied by every girl’s eyes). Who can refuse this cutest palette? Are you sure want to keep your money and turn around?

If you are still hesitant to buy the Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette, I will help you to decide in this review. So, let’s meet the cutest palette!

Volume: 12 x 0.85 g (0.03oz)

How to use:

– Apply with your favorite shadow brushes. Flat and firmer brushes will give the most color payoff. Fluffier brushes are great for blending. Use a small angled brush to line the eyes.

– To make your eyeshadows more pigmented, apply eye primer beforehand.

My Skin (around  eyes) Type: Normal to oily, my eyes are sensitive too

Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette Review:

I think without talking anything about the packaging, we had already imagined that this palette would come in an extra cute house, right? And it is like a dream came true! When I got the palette on my hand, I yelled inside, “OMG! So cute!” With purple background and the rainbow, seems like we are already in Pony’s land, LOL.

Start from the outer box. It is made from medium thickness cardboard. When turn to the back side, we will find the name of each shade there. Just that. There is no other description or direction of the product. It is designed quite simple.

Move to the shadow palette itself, I love how this mini palette comes in a very sleek design and handy size. It comes in an extra thick cardboard which is very sturdy, as well as the magnetic cover that clings perfectly so it won’t be accidentally opened.

Like the outer box, I couldn’t find any description of the product but the shades name is the only exception. I do not mind with that because the brand’s website gives the information completely. Well, actually I do not care with that since the extra cute packaging already won my heart, hhaha!

Once the palette opened up, we will find 12 mini pans of eyeshadow. At first when I heard about the collaboration of Colourpop and My Little Pony, I thought it would be full of pastel colors. But nope. This eyeshadow palette comes with a huge color range from soft, bright pop colors till the darkerst one.

These 12 pressed powder shadows consist of neutral, orange-coral, purple, pink and blue-teal shades with 3 kinds of finishing result; matte, metallic and satin. I do not know how they picked the shades, but it looks great in one mini palette we get 12 pretty shades for daily makeup look and glamorous look as well. So, here are the complete 12 shades of Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette.

Butterscotch: white with subtle pink violet opalescent sheen (can’t find the sheen, it is matte, IMO)

Blossom: metallic peach with pink and gold duochrome finish (contains gold tiny shimmer)

Starshine: metallic golden tangerine (contains gold tiny shimmer)

Bluebell: satin golden ivory (contains white-pearly tiny shimmer)

Applejack: matte dusty red violet (it is more like sheer plum in my skin)

Skydancer: metallic bright icy lavender (contains soft purple-pearly shimmer, my favorite colors. It is super pretty!)

Minty: matte cool-toned fuchsia (I imagined a mint color, but it’s way too far from the actual shade, LOL. The color is great to create soft-smokey purplish eyes)

Flutterbye: matte true pastel peach (the most neutral color, it is wearable for daily look)

Twilight: satin deep blackened violet (contains purple shimmer)

Firefly: metallic silvery baby blue (it is true cool toned-metallic silver, a millennium color)

Snuzzle: metallic icy white with opalescent blue duochrome (contains shimmer, will give you 2 different colors; white and blue under a bright light)

Princess Sparkle: metallic rich smokey turquoise

Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette Review

The pigmentation of the 12 pressed powder shadows are quite good. Even the lightest color like Butterscoth, Bluebell and Snuzzle have a nice color payoff. On my hand swatches, I took each shadow lightly with my pinkie finger and swatched only one layer on my arm. All shades look quite decent. They will give better pigmentation if you put more layers or used eyeshadow primer beforehand.

I found that some of the eyeshadows have different texture with the others. In average, the metallic shadows have more creamy texture than the matte ones. But overall, all of them have great and smooth texture. They can be blended very easy and natural, even if you use your fingers to blend it out. The most important thing is they are not too powdery. It may be our own personal preferences, but personally I do not like too powdery eyeshadow.

Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette has a great texture between creamy and powdery. Thus each shadow doesn’t fall easily under your eyes and once they set, they will not smudge out. And due to its creamy texture, it won’t make your skin drier too.

I do believe that the staying power may vary depending on our skin type. My eyelid is normal to oily. But since it starts raining everyday and the weather gets colder here (which means my eyelid being less oily), I do not face any problem with the staying power. I could wear it about 5 hours, and it started smudging in a little amount afterwards.

If you want to use this palette, there are no rules and your creativity is unlimited. You can combine two colors or more, use only one color or use all colors in once. For me, I use the matte shades for natural daily makeup and add the metallic shades for special occasion makeup.

On the pictures, I tried to create a soft-purplish eye makeup (I hope it looks okay, LOL) by combining almost all of the shades (not included shades are Twilight and Starshine). Well, you can make your own look with this cute mini palette. It is so much fun to play with the shades and make a new look everyday.

Oh, as I said before, this palette will give better color payoff if you apply eyeshadow primer beforehand. The colors will be more distinct and vivid. The eye primer I recommend is from Urban Decay. In case you do not have any eye primer, you could also use your lip balm as well (use the transparent lip balm). On that look, I used Etude House Pure Jelly Multi Balm as a primer (haha, found another function from my Genie Multi Balm).

All in all, I like this palette and it also makes me curious with other products of Colourpop (I heard this brand has good quality but comes in affordable prices). Colourpop X My Little Pony Shadow Palette is a good choice for not only My Little Pony’s fans but also anyone who wants to have eyeshadow with various shades in one palette.

Just a little gripe from me, it should be great if they include a mini eyeshadow brush and a mirror in the package (what a greedy me! hhaha).

By the way, did you join Black Friday sale? I think it’s a good time to grab our wishlists, haha. I am currently interested not only in Korean cosmetics but also the western ones, so I ordered some makeup (and practically made my wallet crying, LOL). Stay tune on Cosmeperks to read the reviews soon!
