Comparison Review: Cosrx Clear Fit Master Patch Vs Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch

Comparison Review: Cosrx Clear Fit Master Patch Vs Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch

Easily one of the most popular Korean skincare products, the CosRX Acne pimple patch, is one of my most purchased products. It’s not miraculous as many websites like buzzfeed and allure describe it- to be precise it simply does what it’s supposed to effectively (for me). I wouldn’t usually repurchase anything that does almost nothing however, out of all the patches I’ve tried so far, it’s the best.

One thing is for sure, my pimples don’t get worse after using a patch. I mostly use pimple patches to prevent large, active pimples from interacting too much with the air and get worse. Therefore, I mostly use them when I’m going out of my house. Because you can notice a weird circle on the skin when you wear this outside, CosRX created the new patches to wear outside (and with makeup!!). To me that sounds very appealing and to top that, the price is the exact same with the older ones! I have nothing but high expectations for CosRX so as soon as these were released, I ordered a piece.

I won’t elaborate too much on the acne pimple master patch since there’s already a review on it but I will compare the two down to the smallest detail since I’m very curious to see how different can two products be when they’re made from the exact same ingredients.

One thing that has set apart Cosrx’s patches from the rest is their exceptionally good stickiness. I believe that in the new version the patches became even stickier because when I take off the patch there’s some stickiness on my skin; the area also looks lifted.

I have problems with the size of both patches. When I first used the red ones, I wished they’d all be of the same size. The new ones are all sized the same but the size isn’t great. It covers effectively only small pimples. While I place the patch on top of a pimple, one part opens and I have to keep pressing it. It’d really help if the patches were larger. I faced the exact same problem with the older patches, it’s just that I hoped CosRX would’ve fixed it.

I honestly don’t understand how someone can use the small ones. Furthermore, both patches don’t stay on too well on areas that aren’t stable e.g. chin, near lip area. I really liked that with the newer ones, all patches are the same size but they need to get just a tiny bit wider to be perfect. Even though that happens, they are still very sticky (with very few exceptions as I previously mentioned)!

Both versions are the same in terms of stickiness and no matter how long I’ve left them, they never slide off on their own. Both have the same feel but the new version has something like a bump; I’ve noticed that it absorbs pus better than the older ones. Every time I take it off, there’s always some. I know, disgusting but also slightly satisfying.

With the older ones I’d also get some gunk out but not as much; recently, I used a new one and as I took it off the pimple literally popped. It’s like the newer patches suck the pimple. Also, I’ve noticed that whenever pus comes out, in the older ones you can kind of see it; yet in the newer ones it’s less visible.

As far as healing the pimple goes, my opinion is kind of divided. I’d say the older ones are better at helping the pimple heal. Both versions don’t “miraculously make the pimple disappear” since after I take off the patch the pimple is there for at least 3-4 days.

With the older ones I think that the pimple is getting a bit smaller and there’s less redness after I take it off. With the newer ones I get extreme redness, probably because of the glue.

Lastly, the main point of differentiating the two versions. Wearing them in public. Now even though it’s a bit unconventional, I’ll start by saying how the two are without makeup on top- since I’m not a person that wears makeup every day (then I’d need way more patches).

The new ones are better for the areas that are close to the nose and mouth and the older ones are less noticeable at the outer parts of the face. Let me note here that these are the areas where I have hyper pigmentation/ acne and where I not, respectively. I believe that happens because the newer ones feel a bit thinner and softer. The newer ones are matte while the older ones are shinier and yes, that’s the main difference between the two.

CosRX talk about the patches used with makeup in their claims. At first I expected the patch to be completely covered. I was very wrong. Because the patch isn’t thin enough (even though they’re about half as thick in comparison to the older ones), it can’t be completely covered.

Instead, it’s even more obvious that there’s a patch there thanks to makeup getting stuck/ not going deep enough at the surroundings of it. Another reason that this doesn’t work as well with makeup is that any kind of foundation on top of it just looks weird. The liquid just sits on top in a weird way.

Overall, both versions are extremely similar. I prefer the older version since these patches don’t irritate my skin but I’ll probably keep buying both since they have the same price. I’d recommend these to people who have occasional active pimples and don’t have a lot of acne.

In case you have a lot of hyperpigmentation like me, keep in mind that it worsens temporarily after using the new patches. Lastly, I wish that CosRX could fix the edges so that the patch isn’t visible under makeup, then they’d be perfect.
