[REVIEW] COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid

COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid Review:

Having really oily skin and big pores, and also being in a humid climate like Singapore, has caused my skin to be peppered with blackheads and tiny clogged pores. To solve this problem, I have searched high and low for a suitable product that would provide oil control and not dry out my skin at the same time. I came across the COSRX blackhead power liquid, which is a chemical exfoliator.

from the COSRX website

+ 4% natural BHA component gently eliminates blackheads and dead skin cells. It effectively penetrates into the skin and cleans up clogged pores. Also it helps skin to rebuild its moisture shield.

+ PH: 4.0

+ Must be used with sunscreen in daylight.

+ Do not use BHA products if you are allergic to aspirin.

+ Do not use BHA liquid with any other highly concentrated AHA, BHA or Vitamin C products.

COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid Review:

Personally, I pump one pump on my hand and apply it directly onto my face to save product. Hehe. I only apply this product on my T-zone, since the other areas of my face are not oily but dry instead. The product spreads really easily, and it is basically like water with a slight chemical smell that goes away within seconds. The products absorbs really quickly into the skin, literally within seconds. It is not sticky or greasy at all, which also means that you would have to follow up and moisturize your face after this.

NOTE: I would recommend waiting for around 10-15 minutes before applying other skincare products. The reason being, the low PH environment allows the BHA to penetrate your skin better and work its magic. If you start applying other products immediately, it would raise the PH of your skin, and you would find this product to be less effective.

ANOTHER NOTE: BHA might cause photosensitivity, which means an increased sensitivity to sunlight hence please use sunblock during the daytime as much as possible.

COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid Review

Since I have really sensitive skin, I actually did a patch test on my wrist first before using it on my face. The product does not contain any fragrance or parabens, which is a god-send for people with sensitive skin like me. Initially, I used it around 2-3 times a week and my skin did not experience any adverse reactions to it. This would be a safe way to ease your skin into the product if you have sensitive skin. After that, I started using it daily in hopes of optimising the results.

Having tried Salicylic acid toners from Western brands in the past, I often find them to be too harsh and drying for my skin. However, the COSRX blackhead power liquid seems to be milder, especially for my sensitive skin, yet still delivering results.

For a while, I did not see any results and felt like it was a waste of my money. But, I have seen a reduction in blackheads and clogged pores, after using it for around one month! I did some research and found out that the period of the skin’s cellular turnover is from 28-40 days. Hence, if you do not see results immediately, do not give up! You have to use this consistently in order to see results.

However, if you are experiencing rashes, burning, or unexpected pimples in areas in which you do not usually break out, I would suggest to stop using it.

An unintended benefit of this is that I have also noticed a slight glow in my skin immediately after using this. I suspect it might be due to the niacinamide, which has hydrating and skin restoring benefits. BONUS!

I would rate Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid 5/5. Overall, this product has been very effective for me and I would definitely recommend this to people struggling with oil control, blackheads and clogged pores but also have dehydrated skin!

I would definitely repurchase if I can finish the bottle, because I’m still left with more than 80% of it after using it for 2 months.

  1. Hey, i’ve been wondering about this. Is this product supposed to be used after a toner or is it used in place of toner. I watch a youtube video that said they don’t use toner when using exfoliant, so that makes me hesitating to use it. And does this product used in place of essence, because of in the instruction it said “pump the essence…” that word makes me wonder if this is used in place of essence.
