Etude House Better Lips-Talk Velvet BR405 Mauve On was purchased by Cosmeperks.
Better Lips-Talk is the latest lipstick from Etude House that was launched last month in Korea and it’s their first new lipstick in 2019. I’m excited to see finally Etude came out with a brand new lipstick because to be honest, I got tired with their ‘re-newed’ and ‘new shades’ of the famous Dear My Blooming Lips Talk.
This time they made the lipstick separated with 2 finishes, Velvet and the Regular one. The one I got is the Velvet one and from my experience with Etude’s lipstick, the matte and velvet finish works really great on my slightly dry lips and fingers crossed, I hope this time it will work as good.
They released it in 30 shades which I think is pretty amazing. The one I got is BR405 Mauve On, definitely one of the ‘calmer’ shades in the collection but they have perfect shades for almost all skin tones along with different undertones so I really appreciate on how Etude started to made products with various shades for their international customers.
Velvet Lips-Talk gives vivid color and adheres lightly to the lips with matte finish.

Etude House Better Lips-Talk Velvet BR405 Mauve On Review:
The first thing I noticed is how they upgrade the packaging and it’s something they never did before. The lipstick is quite thick and bulky but it feels so luxurious! It doesn’t have a twist lid, but it’s a magnetic one instead. If you ever saw NARS lipstick, both of them are pretty similar.
It has a gold lid which makes the lipstick looks so fancy but one thing I like the most is how the lipstick feels quite heavy. In my opinion a heavy (in weight) product usually made from good materials thus you’ll find high-end products always feel so heavy.
The only bad side from this packaging is fingerprints will stick on it and it is easy to have scratch mark as well. I don’t really mind though because it’s not too visible unless you see it with full attention.
Among those 20 shades, I got mine in shade BR405 Mauve On. I can say I’m satisfied with the shade range. They have various shades such as reds, pinks, browns, and oranges so I’m sure everyone can find suitable shades for their skin tones. The one I got belong to the Brown category but actually I think it’s more on the pink range. Even judging by the name you can already think that it’s a mauve color, not a brown.
On the swatch picture, the shade looks like a rosy mauve color and when I swatch it on my hand, the color looks exactly similar. Usually swatches from Etude’s official website can look way different with the true color in real life so I’m surprised to see the color match perfectly. Maybe Etude finally decide to show the real colors instead of the edited one.
On my skin, the shade is a spot on mauve color. I personally think it will suit people with cool undertone the best. I have neutral – yellow undertone and on my lips it looks like a lighter version of the true color. It’s like a muted rosy pink on me but I do like it.
My friend who has medium skin tone tried it and on her, the shade looks more like a pale muted pink so I think this shade will suit fair to light skin the best. It may cause your teeth look more yellow so if you don’t want that, please avoid this type of shade.
Etude claims this lipstick as a matte lipstick but so far Etude’s matte finish feels comfortable even on dry lips so I’m not surprised when I try it on my lips it feels very creamy and lightweight. Actually I find that both the formula and the texture are similar to the Dear My Blooming Lips Talk so I’m quite confused since I didn’t notice any obvious difference.
The Better Lips Talk-Velvet performed very well on my lips, it’s creamy, lightweight, easy to apply, and it makes my lips looks super smooth. Even though it has matte texture, it glides so easy on my lips and it feels like I’m applying a soft lip balm. Even I think it should advertised as creamy lipstick instead because of how creamy it is. I do have some dry parts here and there on my lips, mainly on my upper lips but it doesn’t emphasis all of them!
It also has a really good lasting power. I apply it on 9 a.m and 4 hours later, the shade still look vivid on my lips without eating. With eating, especially greasy foods then the lipstick will fade but still leaving a hint of color behind. In my opinion, the lasting power is much better if compared to the Dear My Blooming Lips Talk. It’s not patchy and it doesn’t make my lips dry either so I really satisfied with it.
Overall I highly recommend this lipstick for everyone to try! The price is not that high so it won’t be a burden if you have limited budget. It performs as good as more expensive lipstick I have and the packaging also look luxurious. Don’t be afraid if you have dry or chapped lips since this lipstick formula is very creamy and lightweight so your lips will feel like you wear nothing at all. I think I want to get another shade to try just because I really like it!
