[REVIEW] Etude House Big Cover Concealer Kit

Etude House Big Cover Concealer Kit Review:

My eyes had been a saving grace to my very problematic skin and I hardly paid attention to eye products. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Fine lines and dark circles have announced their presence in recent years. So while I am still trying to find a competent skincare product for these, my best bet for now would be on concealer.
But just as with foundation, there is always the challenge of finding the correct shade to provide the needed coverage. I was therefore delighted when I came across the Etude House Big Cover Concealer Kit, thinking it should save me the hassle of having to search for the right one. So let’s see if I have enjoyed playing make-up with this Concealer Kit.

Etude House Big Cover Concealer Kit Review:

Etude House has had a long history since 1966. It is said to be the “first color-make-up brand in Korea”. This is one of the brands that a K-beauty fan will definitely know of. This is especially so as its products are often packaged princess-y and sweet to appeal to the girly side of us, which is in line with Etude House’s philosophy for their customers to “see their own beauty and inner princess while enjoying and playing make-up”.

The 3 concealer shades in this kit are Pink Bisque, Vanilla and Sand (from left to right of the picture). The shades are named at the back of the palette.

Fret not if you are unsure which shade to use. The instruction guide can be found on googling, which I shall state herewith for ease of reference. It is recommended to use:

70% Pink Beige + 30% Vanilla – covers undereye dark circles
30% Vanilla + 70% Sand – covers small flaws such as scars and spots
80% Vanilla + 20% Sand – covers larger flaws such as freckles

You need not follow this to a T. Go ahead and experiment with the different shades to see what combinations are suitable for whatever you are trying to conceal.

It has a light powdery scent that is almost undetectable. The texture is creamy and blends easily into the skin, giving a natural finish. Because of its creamy texture, a little goes a long way. So it should be able to last a long time even though the product is only 3g worth.

Etude House Big Cover Concealer Kit Review

I do not always use the brush. Sometimes I just use the tip of my finger to swipe up a teeny bit of the concealer directly from the palette as I find that this blends better than using the brush. But I do understand this may seem unhygienic to some people. It is really up to your preference to find what works for you.

I use this mostly for my undereye area. My undereye has this blue hue which I am not sure if this is counted as dark circles. And because the skin is thinner around the eyes area, the (greenish) veins are also somewhat prominent.

Makeup advices are that orange-toned concealer works best for such. The Pink Bisquee, which looks orange-y rather that pink or bisque to me, is ideal. And because I am fair-skinned, mixing the Pink Bisque with Vanilla, just as what Etude House recommends, works well in covering up the discolouration.

I do have fine lines around my eyes areas, and I am glad that the concealer does not settle into the creases as the day goes by. However, I only use sparingly, so I cannot attest if this is the same if the concealer is layered on for more serious dark circles.

On the other hand, even though I only apply a thin layer, the staying power is remarkable and I need not do any touchup through the day. I also have not had milia seeds sprouting from my undereye, as the case had been with some other eye products that I used.

I have no complaints about this product, which you would have gathered from reading my experience with this product.

Other than the favourable application I have with this, I like best that it is a 3-in-1, thus allowing me to mix the colours to come up with a shade that works for me. I also like the convenience of just bringing one small palette instead of three (though I never did need to do any touchup thus far). It is an added bonus that a mirror is available in the palette.

However, I would like to highlight to you that many other reviews I came across on this concealer have generally rated it poorly. Skincare and makeup can be quite individual. What works for one may not work for another, due to varied reasons such as skin condition, reaction to ingredients, lifestyle etc. So do be a discerning consumer and know your skin well, before jumping into the wagon or otherwise ☺
