Etude House Cherry Sweet Color Lip Balm RD301 Review:
I bought this lip balm for two reasons. First, I need more lip balm after suffering from lips irritation. The second one, I was tempted to try it out due to Etude House’s swatches on their Instagram. The colors look very pretty and vivid. I think it’s so fun to have a lip balm with great and opaque pigmentation like a lip color, right?
So, I bought this Etude House Cherry Sweet Color Lip Balm in shade RD301. There is another product that was released with this color lip balm at the same time, the lip gloss. But I grabbed the lip balm only (maybe next time for the lip gloss). I really expected a lot from this lip balm (for not only moisturizing but also giving a vivid color to my lips) because of everything it claimed. And the fact is… Well, let’s jump to the review to know how it works, keep scrolling down!
– Moisture and vivid color all at once! Multi-color lip balm makes the lips look like cherry and full of revitalizing shine.
– Cherry color to make the lips look full of vitality.
– Keep the lips moisturized with lip balm containing abundant moisture.
– Sweet fragrance for a pleasant feel.

Etude House Cherry Sweet Color Lip Balm RD301 Review:
Like my other reviews, let’s start with the packaging. The lip balm is housed in a red and white box that also brings complete information about the product itself. I like how Etude House always give a clear product description in every package of their products, it looks professional and informative.
The lip balm itself comes in a standard lip balm package, but this one is a little bit chubby. Though it is designed very simply but it still looks cute, especially the cherry doodle printed on the cap. The plastic tube is also sturdy and handy. Overall, I like the packaging.
Like what it promised, this lip balm has cherry scent. It is not a sweet-candy cherry scent, it is a bit sour. However it smells so fresh, nice and not boring. I also like that the scent is not too strong so it will not disturb our nose.
Once twisted up, I found out that the lip balm comes in a deep red bullet. It looks like a color lipstick. I was also surprised since the bullet looks matte. If I didn’t know that it is actually a color lip balm, I would think that I bought a matte lipstick in a deep red color.
I truly had a high expectation for the color payoff when I saw the red bullet. I thought, it would do what it claimed for the point ‘Moisture and vivid color all at once!’
I did my first hand swatch and was surprised, again. At first, I imagined opaque and distinct color swatches like Etude House did on their Instagram. From their cherry swatches on Instagram, the colors look very rich and pigmented. And they look a bit matte too, well at least satin finish in my opinion. But… hello? How many swipes should I do to get the same color payoff like Etude House’s?
In fact, this lip balm has sheer color! Yes, it has color (not transparent) but it provides sheer-balmy color. I do not mind for the name ‘Color Lip Balm’ because actually it has color in it. But the claim ‘vivid color’ and the brand’s swatches are a bit too much. I expected a high result when saw the official swatches so I bought the product and ended up with a mental breakdown T T
You can find how the color look alike on the photos. Even when I added more layers (until 7 swipes) the color still looks pretty sheer. It is not that vivid nor opaque and does not have coverage. The red color is actually pretty with slightly hint of orange hue. It looks very natural on my lips. But still, I am disappointed with the far difference between the real swatch and its official brand’s swatch (I sound like a picky person, LOL).
Leave my disappointment about the color payoff behind, I find that this color lip balm glides very smoothly and easily on my lips. There is no clumpy result too. It goes like a lip balm product should go. The finishing is nice too. It is not matte like I thought before, it gives balmy sheen on my lips which I like because it makes me look younger.
This lip balm treats my lips pretty well. It gives moisture and instantly makes my lips look healthier with its natural glowy effect. Meanwhile, the longevity is so so. Its glowy effect lasts less than an hour and the sheer red color will disappear after drinking or eating without leftover stain (or maybe the stain is unnoticeable). Fortunately this lip balm has extra weightless texture, so it is okay to be re-applied as much as you want.
Other thing I would like to say is this product does its job well as a lip balm. My lips get instantly smooth and moist after application. It also does not feel heavy or sticky even I apply more than 3 layers at once. The sheer pigmentation creates natural look but it can not cover lips imperfections.
This lightweight lip balm will be loved by anyone who does not like lip balm with too buttery texture. Meanwhile if you need more or longer moist effect, you can re-apply this lip balm as often as you need. You may fall in love with the way it stays on your lips without heavy feeling even after more than 3 layers!
Honestly, I do not plan to repurchase this product or try the other shades. I aimed to get vivid and opaque color like its official swatches when I bought this product, but it does not give me a satisfying result (I think I expected too high, hehe). It just works like a lip balm. So, I prefer to go back to my HG lip balm from Nivea or Innisfree that work slightly better for the rich moist result.
