[REVIEW+SWATCHES] Etude House Colorful Drawing Fantastic Color Eyes 02 Vermilion

Etude House Colorful Drawing Fantastic Color Eyes 02 Vermilion Review:

Although it’s still a new product I didn’t get it right after it came out. There’s two reasons for that. One is that usually Etude House eyeshadow palettes have a lower quality than their single shadows – and usually only one or two special colors. Another is that, of course, it was difficult to choose between the two palettes! Eventually I chose this one because the other one was too similar to… everything else I own.

Claims:

+ The 6-color shadow palette expresses water painting eye makeup with bright vivid Vermilion color tone.

+ From shimmering base to vivid point and sparkling glitter colors, you can enjoy diverse looks with one palette.

+ They are soft and adhesive shadows without cakey texture, which will keep the color and pearl for a long time.

To be honest, there is one thing that bothers me. They advertise it as “Vivid like watercolor” but if you paint with watercolors you know they are anything but vivid! They are diluted, they are pastel colored. Then you can layer it and get something more vivid… but watercolors are not vivid by themselves.

Since I couldn’t find the official English names for the shades, I took the liberty to translate them for you.
By looking at the palette, (the first time before I even tried it), I thought I would love and live on Orange Gradation and Water Recipient Left In The Sun (amazing name by the way). I thought I would hate Yellow Cardboard and would have no use for the brown tones. And mainly I thought I took a risky leap when I chose vermilion, because I would never really use that Vermilion Ink unless it was such a light amount it wasn’t vermilion anymore.

It comes with a sponge brush, which to be honest I don’t ever use… but this one is good. So, sponge brushes are good to grab glitters, just like your fingers they are better than normal brushes. This palette only has two mattes! Win. Also one of the sides of the brush is thin so you can use it to draw an eyeline stripe along your eyelashes, it works better than a q-tip for those who don’t have an angled brush!

You can notice already that the colors I use the most are the Yellow Cardboard and Vermillion Ink. And that I barely used the Orange Gradation shade.

Anyway, this is the photo on which the colors are the closest to the real life palette – and where you can best see the order of glitters: glitter, matte, shimmer, glitter, matte, glitter.

On different angles you can see how intense and shiny the colors are. The mattes are always the same shine and intensity – which is pretty cool.

The brown tones (Abrasion brush on the left, Brown Pastel on the right) are actually metallic and not glitter if you layer them up to their full intensity. And actually the two center colors are the least fascinating of all to me.

The shadows have no scent that I can notice, and feel really light on the skin.

Each of the colors by order from left to right.

You can see they do cling very well to the eyelid, and they do have a decent duration – like a higher end brand instead of like… The Face Shop’s Marvel eyeshadows that wash off so fast. These ones last well enough that if I go out for a couple of hours only I don’t bother applying eye primer. It does gather on my overly hooded crease, but less than the average eyeshadows from Etude.

Here are two looks that I did using the star of this palette. I meant to show it because it can go towards orange red (like MAC’s Morange lipstick) or towards warm magenta, depending on how intensely you layer the colors and what kind of colors you have to contrast the Vermillion Ink.

(btw, with the VDL eye shadow primer that first look lasted me literally from 10am to 10pm without bulging, that primer is perfect for mattes).

This palette gave me no irritation or discomfort at all, even when I accidentally poked the brush INTO my eye. For an Etude House eyeshadow palette I’m really surprised, just like the Pink Skull one was exceptionally good for the brand’s standards.

This happens with all the colors except the Water Recipient In The Sun (4th color), although it does happen in different ways. I’m showing it with the Vermilion Ink because it’s so intense that it makes it more obvious. The intensity of the shadow is the same in pigmentation independently of the number of times you swatch but it becomes brighter, more “acrylic ink” rather than “watercolor” the more you layer it. For the first look on the previous picture I used 1 and 2 layers of Vermilion Ink blended, and on the second look I used 3 layers.

The best part of these shadows is that you can also blend them easily enough that they can become a blush, for example.

Overall I am very surprised with this shadow palette and do not regret choosing Vermilion instead of Magenta. I think with the versatility of these shadows any of the two palettes would satisfy anyone who likes eye shadows.

I would definitely recommend these ones over the normal palette shadows from Etude, as they have better quality and are tremendously versatile!
