[REVIEW+SWATCHES] New 2018 Etude House Matte Chic Lip Lacquer OR202 Too Much Orange

Etude House Matte Chic Lip Lacquer OR202 Too Much Orange Review:

Recently Etude House appointed a famous Korean girl group Red Velvet as their new brand face (or a brand ambassador), replacing Krystal from f(x) and I think it’s a good choice since Red velvet is really popular both nationally and internationally.

They also released a new product called the Matte Chic Lip Lacquer and honestly I think the concept of this collection is perfect for Red Velvet as it’s chic and has a little bit of retro vibe. They did have matte lip liquid in the past but if I remember correctly, they didn’t get positive feedback and the collection was discontinued.

Etude House makes the lip lacquer in 12 shades with most of them are reds but there is neutrals, pinks, and oranges shade as well. There are 5 special shades and called as “Red Velvet’s shades” with each member names as its names as well. They sell it in a special box containing those 5 shades and photocards as a bonus for purchasing.

Claims :

Long-lasting lip lacquer keeps the lips matte and less smudged or smeared as rich color pigment is fixed fast upon application.

Etude House Matte Chic Lip Lacquer OR202 Too Much Orange Review:

It’s been a long time since I bought lips product from Etude house, the latest being the famous Dear Darling Water Gel Tint and most of Etude’s lip products didn’t last that long on my lips. But then I saw how Etude advertised this lip lacquer as a very long lasting with a matte finish. I really love matte finish and I’m so excited I bought it immediately.

I wanted to get one of the Red Velvet’s special shades. My plan was to get the Joy one (a very bright apricot orange) or Wendy’s (a neutral deep brown shade) but unfortunately they were sold out everywhere. All of my trusted local sellers said they didn’t know when the Red Velvet shades will restock and since I didn’t want to wait that long, I decided to get the other shade instead. That’s how I finally got the the shade OR202.

OR202 Too Much Orange is one of the 2 orange shades they have in the collection. They describe it as a warm tone shade and perfect for autumn season. On the advertisement picture, the shade looks really orange but when I swatch it on my hand, the shade looks like a red-based orange shade and will be perfect for summer instead of autumn but I do love the shade. It’s not a shade you can called ‘neutral’ but it’s not too bold either and I can still wear it daily.

It comes in a cardbox packaging. It has the same color on the box and the bottle as the shade inside so you can guess which color is which without need to see the shades’ names on the back part of the bottle. The bottle is made from frosted plastic material and it feels more sturdy if compared to Etude’s previous lip products.

As every other liquid lipsticks, it has a doe-foot as its applicator but the shape is really new for Etude. It has an S-shaped applicator, exactly the same with 3CE Tattoo Lip Tint and the shape makes the application easier since it hugs any lips shape perfectly.

It has good pigmentation. One swipe and it covers my lips fully. A dip is enough for one whole lips and since I have small lips, sometimes I have to wipe the excess product first so there won’t be too much product on my lips.

The finish, as they claim, is very matte. I think it’s quite rare since almost every Korean brands has velvet finish instead of matte. It has no sheen or shine at all and it sets immediately after application. Because it sets fast, I have to hurry up and blend it with my finger if I want to make a nice gradient lips.

With its matte finish, it emphasis my dry parts especially on my upper lips but then I tried using a lip balm first and the finish looks much more smooth than before. After it sets, it doesn’t feel dry at all but it feels a little bit sticky. Not a bad sticky but a ‘well-moisturized lips’ sticky so I don’t have a problem with that. It’s transfer-proof and waterproof as well.

The longevity is really amazes me! I tried it before I went to eat with my friends to test the longevity. I had fried dumplings and a sandwich and when I wanted to retouch my lips, I saw no fading at all except on the very inner part on the lips. Even after I ate oily foods before it didn’t affect this lip lacquer. It’s not blotchy or patchy at all but it still feel sticky until the end of the day.

It is very hard to remove even with a cleansing oil. I have to swipe my lips harshly and tug my lips too. But with the quality, I don’t mind at all! I really love this lip lacquer and when the special shades get back in stock, I want to get the Wendy’s brown since it looks so pretty on the picture.

I really recommend it for everyone! Even if you have dry lips, just apply lip balm. It won’t dry out your lips so it’s safe for dry lips to wear this item. The price is not too expensive either and it’s easy to get. I’ll give it 4.5 stars out of 5!
