[REVIEW+ALL SWATCHES] Etude House SHINE Chic Lip Lacquer PK001 Magenta Z & PK002 Muse On

Etude House SHINE Chic Lip Lacquer PK001 Magenta Z & PK002 Muse On was purchased by Cosmeperks.

Last time Etude House released the Matte Chic Lip Lacquers which were a tremendous success. Are they the best quality matte lipstick – no, but they definitely are affordable and the most long lasting ones I have ever tried. This time, Etude House released ones that promise to give you shine yet long lasting lip looks without smudge. Personally given my dehydrated (and often dry) lips, these ones appeal to me more than the last ones. So, without further ado, I present thee two colors!

Claims:

(from the package)

+ Glossy lip lacquer in extra shine texture with vivid color.

+ Vividly color locking with water tinting: the vividly pigmented inner color by the water tint function of the moisture layer is clearly applied to the oil layer, expressing the outer color in the same color.

+ Moisture locking with glossy texture: the glossy texture makes dry and flaky lips look shiny with highly moisturizing oil (spoiler alert: true but it still shows the flakes)

+ Smudge-less color locking with clear oil coating: the clear oil layer keeps color from easily smudging by smoothly coating the surface of the lips.

Volume: 3.2g

How to use:

After adjusting the amount of the content on the tip at the opening of the container, apply on the lips starting from the inside and working outwards as if creating natural gradation.

(or you can do it like on the website and apply very defined full lips)

My Skin Type: Dehydrated, sensitive, allergic and very pigmented lips.

The design is simple though, in my opinion, less attractive than their matte counterparts. There is a slight transparency in the bottom part, which allows you to see the actual lipstick color, and will allow you to see once you reach the end of the product. To me, nothing special.

The reason I got two colors is because they gave out a mini-lipstick when you purchased a full size, so I thought I should review them together.

Before I forget, all colors have slightly different fragrances! I cannot speak for the other ones, but this magenta one is more berry-like, and the pink one is candy-sweet.

On my visit to the store I found right away a “problem” for online shoppers. The colors are always transparent, so there is no way to actually know what they truly look like on you.

The photos on the official website are good guides, since the skin color swatches look similar to them (but not similar to the photos they had on the store, at all). So guide yourself through the website photos (and my swatch photos are also accurate).

Then you just remind yourself there is transparency and your lip color will alter the lipstick color accordingly (you’ll see later on my own lips).

Out of all the colors there on the store, I think the Magenta Z and Tangerine Dance looked the most appealing and unique!

Home with my two colors here is a bigger swatch. Notice how the colors are so transparent that lumps of layered color look different on a white background (reason why I use my inner arm, as well as my lips for showing the colors: arm is white and lips are purple).

After removing this there was a tint on the Magenta Z (right) side but none on the other.

The applicator is really good and user friendly. I haven’t had a single application problem – after removing the excess product before use.

I can even apply it without a mirror!

But for defined lips (rather than gradation or semi-gradation) I do need a mirror and need to be more careful.

So, this is what happens most of the time with Magenta Z. It applies nice and shiny but later it breaks down like a jelly tint with fat! And I have no idea why: my lips are clean and dry before using, I shake the product before using, apply only one thin layer, etc, but it is almost always like this.

I can’t tell you how frustrating (and disappointing) it is. Because for this I would rather pay (literally) half the price and get the water tints from Aritaum (which they have often on 1+1 promotions, so it’s actually 1/4th of the price). Moving on.

You can see on the paper there are jelly leftovers. Afterwards the remaining tint on the lips is beautiful and amazing – but not shiny anymore.

But sometimes this happens. A simple and beautiful application that is all they promised. Doesn’t smudge nor leave stains, there is no jelly agglomerates, and it lasts for 4h without changing and unlike the matte tints, it cares for dry lips. As long as they are not flaking of course.

But this happened in two days out of the 7 days in a row I used this tint.

So, I must say beforehand, I am not quite sure about repurchasing a darker color from this collection.

The Muse On (aka, one of the lightest colors) is perfect every time I applied. Perfect in every way, and it does exactly what they say. Also keeps the lips moist so all I need to do is re-apply the lacquer on top.

Also you can see a color intensity change on one layer vs two layers.

Please notice how it is darker on my lips than it was on my arm, and on the official website photos.

With this lighter shade I have no regrets and must say I love it.

I would like to try a light orange shade.

But here magic happens.

Lighter shade plus darker shade gradation magic.

Perfect.

Yes, there is smudging and blotting because of the darker shade but please.

Please.

I recommend the lighter shade PK002, although not so much the darker shade PK001. They work well together though.

But as a two color gradation product, I must say they are both a win that make your lips look like candy!
