We all know that Korea makes some of the best cushions, whether it’s a sponge cushion, mesh cushion, or even a pact type of cushion. Even some luxury brand like YSL and Lancome make their cushion foundations in Korea. Until these days, cushion is still really popular because of its practicality and most of them have dewy finish which make our skin looks twice healthier and better in real life.
I’m not a huge fan of sponge cushion because somehow that type of cushion often break apart on my oily-combination skin faster than any other foundations but I do love mesh and pact cushion! They usually stay longer on me and they don’t emphasis my skin texture.
One day, Nigama offered me to try the newest cushion from Etude, the Skin Glow Essence Cushion and I’m pretty excited to see that it has a mesh type. It also contains essence and I really love base product with skincare in it (until now the Double Lasting Serum Foundation is still in list of my favorite foundations).
It’s a new product from Etude so you may have a bit difficulty in finding this product but no worry, there are some well-known online stores who ship internationally or you can get it directly from Etude House global official website.
Glow type makeup cushion that makes the skin look flawless and hydro-radiant and contains essence.

Etude House Skin Glow Essence Cushion N03 Neutral Vanilla Review:
When the product arrived at my place, it reminds me of Etude’s older cushion, the Real Powder Cushion. I’m pretty sure Etude didn’t sell it anymore but if you own it, you will see some similarities between these two cushions.
The Skin Glow Essence Cushion came in a basic beige paper box but the cushion itself looks so pretty and elegant thanks to its simple yet classy packaging. It feels so lightweight though and because it’s made from plastic, when you touch it you will think that the packaging actually feels quite cheap.
This cushion didn’t have a ‘click’ sound when you close the lid and turns out it doesn’t have secure lid. So you have to press hard to make sure the lid close properly. I’m not sure why they made the lid like this unlike their other cushions.
When you open the cushion, you will find a nice air puff. The puff feels soft and I do think for a cushion product, air puff is the best way to apply it on the face because they tend to blend the product better and smoother.
What intrigue me the most is how they use aluminium foil as the protector seal to protect the product inside. Usually they will use a plastic sticker instead and I think it’s my first time seeing Etude House use an aluminium foil protector.
Maybe it’s more efficient in protecting the product? Or is it to block the air to not seep into the product? I search about it on Etude’s official website but they didn’t say anything about it.
As for the shade range, I feel disappointed. For the Double lasting Foundation they were able to make it in 12 shades so why does this cushion only has 5 shades available to choose from? And all 5 shades are on the lighter tone, even Tan, the darkest shade in the range will suit light to medium skin tone the most.
I got mine in the second lightest shade, N03 Neutral Vanilla. I was hesitating if I have to choose the lightest shade or this shade but the lightest one, P03 Light Vanilla may look too pink on my skin tone. I have neutral undertone so I finally choose N03 as my shade.
I’m glad I chose this shade because it’s perfect for me! I don’t have to blend the cushion down until my neck because the shade matches me perfectly well. Sometimes cushion foundation can oxidize and gets darker over time but this cushion doesn’t change at all.
The texture of this cushion is thin and a bit runny, a usual thing you will find from a base makeup with a skincare in it but thanks to its texture, it makes the product blends really well.
I think I didn’t use any effort in blending the cushion. I just dab my face with the air puff provided several times and it already blend into my skin perfectly.
But because of the texture as well, it doesn’t have a good coverage. It doesn’t cover my imperfections such as acne scars, dark spots, and zits but it does cover my redness really well.
I think this cushion is perfect if you only have minor skin problems. I don’t mind the coverage though because I love lightweight foundation and as long as it makes my skin looks good, I’m pretty okay with it.
Because Etude claims this cushion has an essence inside, the finish is pretty dewy especially on my oily-combination skin. It’s not as dewy as the Double Lasting Serum Foundation though so if you are afraid if this cushion can make you look like an oily mess, don’t be.
I love the finish because it makes my skin looks really healthy and glow from within but the dewiness can feel a bit heavy on me (especially on my T-zone area) so to solve this problem, I used a loose setting powder to set the cushion.
With a setting powder, it can take the dewiness away but it will make your makeup last much longer. What surprise me the most is how the cushion doesn’t look cakey no matter how much powder I use!
It feels like the product absorb the powder and make my skin looks really natural, like My Skin But Better effect. Usually my face can look a bit too dry and matte if I use a lot of powder but it doesn’t happen with this cushion, and to be honest I would love to give 5 stars just because of this.
I do have large pores thanks to my excessive sebum production and I’m happy to say that this cushion doesn’t make my pores look bigger! I didn’t use any primer when I first tried this product just to see its real quality and the cushion works pretty fine.
I also tried it on top of a serum primer and unexpectedly, it performs just the same so if you are not a primer person, you don’t have to worry because the result with and without primer is similar.
Even though it has a dewy finish, it doesn’t emphasis my skin texture at all, instead it makes my skin looks so flawless and smooth, a rare thing I got from a cushion foundation.
It also last really long on me, I used it for work for +/- 8 hours and when I got home, my makeup is still intact with just a bit of shine on my nose and forehead. It doesn’t feel sticky even after all day and I didn’t see any patchiness or blotchiness on my skin at all.
Will I purchase it again in the future? Of course! I really love this cushion and it’s unfortunate they didn’t come with a refill even though the price is a bit high.
For one cushion you have to spend more than $15 which is a lot for a product from Etude House but for the quality I think it’s more than worth it. It’s been a long time since I use a cushion this good and I’m happy to say that this cushion will be listed as my favorite cushion from now on.
