Femmue The Botanist Chamomile Mask Calming/Hydrating Review:
I have loved flower scented products for as long as I can remember. I think it’s because I always had pot pourri in my bedroom when I was little. Or maybe I had it because I liked the flowers? Regardless, of course in skin care I favor flower scents!
And Femmue is a flower based brand that has surprised me a lot. As I see them growing in popularity, especially their mask sheets, I thought I should review one of the masks I keep reaching out for.
The ingredient list is short, the brand is a personal favorite, and they do write in all their products “We put a love here” so I am hoping to feel their love each time I open something new.
♥ Chamomile with excellent soothing effect calms the sensitive skin by covering it gently.
♥ This pouch contains a genuine vegetable bamboo sheet and a transparent and refreshing essence.
♥ The vegetable sheet is 100% extracted from genuine bamboos, it is natural and rich in essence, and covers and clings to the face softly and closely with no irritation for the skin.
Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycrein, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract (69.9ppm), Carbomer, Arginine, Betaine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Canthan Gum, Dextrin, Sodium Polyacrylate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, 1,2-hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Disodium Edta
How to use:
1. After cleansing, use toner to refine the skin texture.
2. Take out the mask from the package and spread it evenly over the entire face, avoiding the eye and lip area.
3. Remove the sheet after 15 to 20 minutes and gently pat to allow the remaining formula to absorb into the skin.
My Skin Type: Oily T, dry U, sensitive, blemishes easily, and allergic. Dry, sensitive and allergic lips. Very thin, dehydrated and oily eyelids.
Femmue The Botanist Chamomile Mask -Calming/Hydrating Review:
Before I start muttering about the product I must say that, in case you noticed, the validity date was over before the review was published but obviously I used it before it ended. Actually I have used these masks since May, and these photos aren’t recent, I just had to “try” the mask a lot of times because of something that happened on my first usage.
I will get to that later. But the point is do not use products outside of the validity date (or if you do, at least make sure to use the product a little before the validity ends so that you can detect any changes in smell, texture, etc).
These Femmue masks all have the same pack, regardless of the scent you choose, and they all open the same. Which in this case is a good thing, since they all open “the same easy” aka just as easily. They don’t slide right open but I didn’t have any struggle with it, ever.
The mask is thick and sturdy, but it is not rough to the touch at all. It is actually soft, just very dense and not fluffy (like fur is fluffy, satin is soft). It is also soaked in essence, and it did drip a little while I was taking the photo.
But not because the masks drip on your neck while in application (they don’t, I can tell you that right away) it’s really just because it’s full of essence.
The mask seems completely normal, a little wider than taller so I know right away it will have excess on my sides since wider masks always leave “flappers” on my sides.
Here is the fit, it’s not perfect. As I said, there are flappers, and it doesn’t adhere 100% on my “tall nose” and it is a little too close to the corner of my eyes. But generally speaking it is still a good fit as it covers most of my face, most of my nose, it fits a little under my chin, and clings amazingly well to all of my face.
Especially compared to, if I might add, the Aritaum masks. They dry fast and peel off the face sometimes (but then again, they are really cheap).
The essence is as they promised: transparent and refreshing. It smells like a flowery soap or handwash, it spreads well and absorbs quickly but without leaving the skin dry.
The first time I used this mask I took notes regarding the following points. The mask is supposed to be calming and hydrating, and I did feel the hydration after usage – and it stayed for a long time and matched my skin care routine perfectly. But I had done some laser on the day before and was peeling on my nose and the mask burned on those spots, so I was frustrated that they called it calming.
So then I actually used it many more times (because I had the masks already!) and decided to be more careful with my skin. On the next times my skin wasn’t peeling nor did I laser before the mask, but I did get some sun damage at some point. So, what I’m saying is that I had skin conditions during the next usages, just not “open wounds”. And these times my thoughts were incredibly different!
The mask is really hydrating, and when my skin is healthy the hydration lasts way longer, and cares for my thin skin and distorted pores. My nose skin was sore at some point (from blowing my nose, I had a cold) but not peeling and the mask calmed it down. It also helped my tense muscles relax.
The mask while applying seems like it doesn’t do much, even though it feels nice, but it does give extreme hydration without drying (for those confused ones hydration = water, moisture = oil, my skin is oily and dehydrated on my T zone, and dry and dehydrated elsewhere).
So, taking the “no open wounds” detail into consideration, this is a great mask that I would include in the aroma therapy and spa sessions at any relaxation resort or center and I’m not even kidding – it is that good.
Of course a dry skin will need the normal amount of moisturizing products afterwards, but as long as you do your normal skin care (and don’t have open wounds, so I’m sorry for cysts and popped pimples) it fits any skin type.
Oh, and there’s lots of essence left in the pouch in the end!
Repurchase? I’m actually just waiting for the brand to restock it in Korea and count me in!
