[REVIEW] Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation | 180

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation 180 Review:

Before I got into skincare, I am obsessed with makeup foundation. It’s been a staple since I was in college. While I am not very fond of the pressed foundations, I totally dig them in liquid or crème form. Most of them have decent coverage and longevity that you can depend on! As I age, however, I went for convenience and comfortability that I opt to wear something a lot lighter on the face. Since I’ve discovered cushion foundations, I’ve never been really interested in western foundations… at least before the birth of Fenty Beauty.

Oh nanaWhat’s my name? I’m sure everybody knows that Fenty Beauty is created by Rihanna. But in case you are wondering why she called this line Fenty Beauty and not Riri or something, it is because her real name is actually Robyn Rihanna Fenty. As the name suggests, this product claims to have outstanding coverage but what got me interested is their apparently light-as-air texture! Enough with the blabber and let’s see if this product is worth ALL THE HYPE.

Claims:

♥ A soft, matte, long wear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage, in a boundary-breaking range of 40 shades.

♥ Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage.

♥ The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores.

♥ Fenty Beauty is 100% cruelty free.

Shade-Finding Tips:

  • Pro Filt’r’s rich pigments need a moment to dry down to their truest color, so when you’re testing shades, remember to let the formula dry completely to find your perfect match.
  • Deciding between two shades? Try the lighter shade.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation 180 Review:

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation has a very extensive shade range, hello 40 shades! So imagine my dilemma in deciding which shade I should be getting, considering that I have to get it from an online store.

Kidding, it wasn’t that hard because the shades are subcategorized into four: 1xx for light, 2xx for medium, 3xx for tan and 4xx for deep; each having 10 shades depending on your undertone (neutral, cool, warm, olive, peach and so on).

The first thing I did is to estimate my skin tone, followed by the undertone. For reference, I am NC 35, and by seeing their guide, I knew that I would be getting something in the range of 2xx which is for medium skin tone.

Since my undertone is warm, I was about to settle with the shade 240 which is a medium-warm but since I’ve read that you should get a shade lighter since the foundation gets darker as it dries, I bought 180 instead which is a light-warm and prayed that I made the right decision!

I hurriedly open the box when it arrived. Honestly, I wasn’t so confident that I got the right shade. I even panicked when I open the box because by the looks of the foundation tube, it is more of 21 than 23 (Korean shades) to me.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation 180 Review

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation comes in a sturdy, neat packaging, it is very minimalist! I also appreciate that it comes with pump since it’s more sanitary and convenient this way. Frankly though, I could care less about the packaging that time.

All I wanted to know then was if I just wasted my $$$ because of my poor guesstimation skill. I pumped a little at the back of my hand and it appeared a little too light for me, I’m a dead girl. But as I blend, I noticed that it’s gotten somewhat yellow, the color definitely got darker as it settled on my skin. I tried applying it on my jaw and I was so happy when I found that it matches my shade perfectly!

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation has a mild scent. It actually smells nice but I would like it even better if it is unscented. The consistency is a little watery but not to a point that it would drip, I feel that it is just perfect to make it even more spreadable.

Unlike the usual foundation, this one dries up really fast so I start with very little amount and work from there, this foundation is buildable after all! I have tried applying it using a cushion foundation sponge but I am more comfortable using my fingers.

I haven’t tested it with a foundation brush because I find it wasteful and I feel that I won’t be able to control how much product gets on my face.

I prefer to apply this very thinly because I feel that it somehow gives me a perfect skin effect if I happen to apply too much and I feel like I am lying to myself. Is that weird? Well, enough with my weirdness.

With and Without Foundation (Applied thin layer)

It wasn’t so bad honestly I’m just not as comfortable to be covering all the imperfection. The coverage of this foundation is decent enough for me; it can easily cover redness and minor blemishes.  As you can see, I have some pimple marks (they are very dark in person) and this foundation was able to provide coverage despite the fact that I applied it very thinly.

To be perfectly honest, this foundation is one of the most lightweight I have tried so far so it shouldn’t really be an issue if applied more generously, I just prefer it this way. If I apply it more thickly, it almost covered my blemishes perfectly! Very impressive!

Applied thick layer of Fenty Beauty foundation

Another feature of the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation is its matte finish, I understand if this would be oily-skinned crowd’s favorite, it is so matte you won’t need to set it with powder! I am amazed how this turns into matte without making your face look flat!

What I do not like, however, is how it accentuates dry patches on my face (chin/nose area) considering I even applied sunscreen underneath which should at least somehow help in that department, right? I don’t recall having issues with foundations accentuating dryness before (I am usually super oily) so I thought I should mention this.

While I don’t find it necessary to set this foundation with powder, I couldn’t say that it stays matte all day long. I leave house around 6 AM and I notice that my T-zone is already shiny by 9 AM. The foundation doesn’t cake up, if you’re curious; but I get an obvious shine especially on my nose.

It may sound weird but this is actually the time when I love how this foundation looks on me. After two-three hours after application, the finish turns to be somewhat dewy to me and it starts to look so naturally pretty. I could care less about the shine (or oil if you please) I just blot to resolve this issue.

I usually get home by 5 PM and I could tell that I still have some foundation left on my face but it’s not as solid as before. But if you think about it, that’s a screaming 11 hours of wearing the foundation, considering I didn’t use any primer, I’d say that this is one hard worker of a foundation! It is also worth mentioning that I live in the Philippines which is a very humid country!

Overall, Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is a very, very good foundation and is actually worth ALL THE HYPE. It’s got very good longevity and good coverage and it feels relatively light on skin.

Despite all these good things, however, I don’t find myself wearing this foundation on a daily basis because I find it tedious if I compare it with cushion foundations. I have to use moisturizer in the morning to prepare my skin which I can easily skip with a cushion foundation.

In addition, you really have to be careful and quick in applying this product, otherwise, it would tug. This baby dries up in no time and once it set on your skin, it is set for life! You have to work really fast with this one! It also takes time because it needs a lot of blending to even out which I cannot afford especially on workdays for I am always on the run.

Anyway, I feel that this foundation would work best for oily skin type or need some serious prepping if you happen to have dry patches. With that being said, I do not recommend this to people with dry skin or problematic skin. I thought I should mention this because the pro filt’r may be misleading to other people.

In the end, it boils down to your skin. If you have healthy and beautiful skin, this would look great on you. But if you have skin issues aside from pimple marks like broken skin, peeling or bumps, this product is far from giving you an instant flawless look but rather emphasize your flaws.
