Hada Labo Koi-Gokujyun Perfect Gel Review:
Looking for a heavy moisturizer to combat my dehydrated skin and being totally in love with Hada Labo products (at the time; not so much nowadays – it’s a pretty long story…), I stumbled across this Koi-Gokujyun Perfect Gel during my usual skincare research.
Skimming through the ingredients list and finding none of my personal triggers (mainly alcohol, alcohol denat. and mineral oil), and boasting some ingredient superstars, I was immediately looking forward to trying it out.

Hada Labo Koi-Gokujyun Perfect Gel Review:
Packaged in a plastic gold tub with a screw-top lid, the Hada Labo Koi-Gokujyun Perfect Gel sits quite lightly in the palm of my hand despite its large size. As with most Hada Labo products, the gel does have a distinct chemical scent which I assume is due to the brand’s preference for non-fragranced products.
Hence, this may be quite a turn off for those who dislike strong scents – fragranced or otherwise – because the chemical scent is especially apparent for this gel. So do please take a whiff of it before purchasing if you see it in stores near you!
While slightly whitish in colour in the tub, it turns transparent when spread onto the skin. The consistency of the gel is very thick and sticky (think silicone-y products, maybe?), and may be a complete turn off for those with oilier skin types as it does not sink into the skin easily at all.
Due to this, while I initially planned to use this as a heavy moisturiser, I quickly decided to try using this as an occlusive/sleeping pack instead. As instructed, I applied a thick layer of the Perfect Gel at the end of my night-time routine to seal in the rest of my skincare, and hoped for the best.
Upon waking the next day, I found that my skin did feel moisturized despite sleeping in an air-conditioned room. But I also noticed that my face looked oilier/duller and that gradually, closed comedones became more apparent on my forehead and cheek area.
So, for me, I do feel that it does have the tendency to clog pores if applied too thickly and frequently. Hence, it took a bit of trial and error to correctly estimate the right amount suitable for my dehydrated yet clog-prone skin.
2/5. After using the Hada Labo Koi-Gokujyun Perfect Gel continuously over the span of a few months, I find that while it does help serve as an occlusive, the learning curve was a bit too much of a hassle and the results were quite underwhelming. However, those with drier skin types may find this great to seal in moisture, so YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
