[REVIEW] Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid

Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid Review:

Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid is a product containing baby mugwort that claims to soothe skin irritations from lack of hydration and moisture. Although the product is watery and light, it works very well to hydrate the skin, especially in a Korean skincare routine when you layer different products of lighter to thicker texture.

Since my skin is easily dehydrated, I was looking for a hydrating product that works well in my skincare routine which involves layering different products to keep my skin moisturized for longer. What I learned from my Korean friends is that it is really helpful to first put on light yet hydrating products before a rich cream to seal in all the moisture. When I saw and tested the Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid at the store, I knew it is the perfect product for replenishing hydration back to the skin during drier weather.

Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid Review:

Hanyul is a Korean skincare brand which belongs to the well – known Amore Pacific Corporation. The brand specializes in herbal skincare cosmetics and most of its products are for moisturizing and anti – aging. Its product packaging is simple and clean that gives an impression that the product is natural and free of harmful chemicals. The Hanyul Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid is no exception. It comes in a green paper box (I did not keep the box though) while the actual product is in a pretty heavy frosted glass bottle.

The bottle looks simple yet quite classy on the vanity table, with product names printed in Korean on one side and English on the other side. The packaging is also hygienic as there is an airless pump to discharge the product.

I have checked the ingredients on cosdna. Most of the ingredients are safe, with the exception of potassium chloride which is identified as a potential irritant and acne trigger. The product also contains various plant extracts like Ulmus Davidiana and Artemisia which are known as soothing and anti – inflammatory ingredients.

The most prominent ingredient in the product is baby mugwort from Ganghwa, Korea which is claimed to be very soothing on tired skin. However, those with sensitive skin should patch test before using as some people could be allergic to certain plant extracts. I myself did not experience any skin irritations or reactions while using this product though. In my opinion, the product is quite well formulated with relatively safe ingredients and different plant extracts to calm and hydrate skin.

Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid has a very mild fragrance that goes away just a few seconds after you apply. The fragrance, to me, is very refreshing and calming. As its name suggests, it is a watery fluid that feels very light but very hydrating on the skin.

The product texture, however, is not toner or essence – like. The texture is between a light serum and an emulsion. It is not too runny when you just pump out the product. As you massage it into skin, it turns watery. The product is absorbed very fast and leaves no stickiness or film on top of skin.

I have been using the Hanyul Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Fluid, morning and night for about 3 months and I have to say I love it!

It is a mild product that works beautifully to restore hydration after my facial wash. I use a pH – balanced cleanser and I do not use a toner, I apply the product on my skin right after washing. I take 1 pump, rub it between my palms and gently pat on skin. I repeat once to twice more until my skin feel adequately hydrated. Then I put on my serum and seal everything in with a cream.

When I incorporate the product into my routine, my skin improved significantly in terms of hydration and moisture. Skin feels deeply hydrated from within. About 2 weeks into using the product, I was surprised to see that I had no dry patches or flakiness even though the weather was just getting drier and cooler. My makeup seemed to be smoother and stayed longer.

I also found that this product really kept my oil production balanced, especially on T-zone and my skin just felt hydrated throughout the day without feeling tight and dry.

The most important reason for me to keep using this product regularly is that it keeps my skin not only hydrated but calm and dewy. Even when the weather changes or when I have my hormonal imbalance, my skin is quite manageable, thanks to this calming fluid.

Before, my moisturizer even dried out on the flaky areas sometimes, probably because my skin was just dehydrated from within. Using a hydrating product like this calming fluid before putting on heavier cream does really make a difference.

There are a few things to note while using this product. You have to use a good cream moisturizer in your routine. The Hanyul Fluid does give hydration but the hydration only lasts longer when you use a good moisturizer to seal all the moisture in. Also, do adjust the amount of product used according to your skin’s need! Using too much might lead to clogged pores as the skin can be over moisturized while using too little would not give desirable result.

All in all, this is a nice product that hydrates, soothes and balances skin. It is, however, not an all in one product. When incorporating into your skincare routine, it is very effective in improving moisture level and keeping your skin calm and balanced. I will definitely repurchase this.

  1. I have never tried this product but really wanted to before reading the ingredients. I do not agree with the reviewer that it is free of harsh chemicals. I have a very sensitive combination skin prone to rosacea and using this product could be a problem for me. Fragrance (score 8 – very red – on EWG), dimethicone (silicon-based polymer, score 1-3 on EWG, safe use with restrictions), phenoxyethanol (score 2-4 on EWG, classified as irritant by some references, possibility of contact allergy with urticaria and dermatitis, can have adverse effects on the nervous system), polysorbate-20 (score 1-3 on EWG, contamination concerns), Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl silane (score 1-3 on EWG, high contamination concerns), cyclopentasiloxane (score 3 on EWG, use with restrictions, suspected to be an environmental toxin and to be bioaccumulative in wildlife, concerns of neurotoxicity, cancer, endocrine disruption), PEG/PPG-17/6 copolymer (score 1-3 on EWG, high contamination concerns). A lot of these ingredients depend on usage, but I’m concerned when many of them could fall in the orange zone. For a calming product, I would of chosen the ingredients more carefully without risk of irritation or allergy reaction (or more!).
