J.one Jelly Pack Review:
I kept seeing this J.one jelly pack coming up in K-beauty reviews, but it never quite caught my attention sufficiently to read the reviews because of its very plain packaging. Neither do the name of “jelly pack” help because I have no idea what it is for.
Then I saw it on the highly popular Korean beauty show “Get it Beauty”. The J.one jelly pack is developed by a popular Korean actress Ha Ji-won, to meet the needs of busy on-the-good women like her. I was enticed by its multi-functions claim of being hydrating, pore-smoothing and especially the tagline used by Ha Ji-won is that it is a “corset for your face” ie. firming and lifting. In addition, the jelly pack is free of ingredients that are generally frowned upon – parabens, mineral oils, sulfates and phthalates. Doesn’t that sounds just like what I need for my complicated skin type?

J.one Jelly Pack Review:
I decided to be cautious and purchased the smaller 30ml tube to try out, after reading the mixed reviews on this product.
Regarding the packaging, I like that it has an authentication sticker as I am rather concerned with the rise of counterfeit skincare products. And when you open the cap, you can see the silver security seal so it gives an added assurance that it is brand new and not tampered with. The 30ml tube is also handy if you would like to bring it when travelling.
Let me touch on a little bit about some of its beneficial ingredients. It contains a handful of goodness namely Niacinamide, Saccharomyces, Adenosine, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid and Fullerene. Niacinamide is for brightening whilst Saccharomyces and Adenosine have anti-aging properties.
Fullerene is specially highlighted in the jelly pack’s advertisement that I saw, as it is a super-antioxidant and helps in the penetration of the ingredients to maximize the product’s efficacy.
The jelly pack comes in a gel-like substance. The texture is unlike any other products I have tried. While it is not heavy, it is super sticky! The glue-like viscosity makes it hard to spread on my face. I therefore use the patting motion instead of gliding, which is what I normally would have done with any normal moisturizer.
It leaves a tacky finish with an obvious shine, which looks (not feel) almost oily. I really dislike both the feel and the look. Thankfully, once the product gets absorbed into the skin, it does not look so glossy but still leaves a mild sticky feel.
The absorption takes quite some time though, like 15 to 20 minutes. This is for me. I read some other reviews that it absorbed fairly quickly, though there is a fair share of some who said the gel never did quite sink into their skin.
If to use this as a primer, I do not think I have the patience nor time to wait for the absorption. So, on a separate occasion to try how it works as a primer, I applied the BB cream on after about 1 minute of slapping on the jelly pack.
I was horrified at the sight. My face was highly glossed! Not the kind of glow or dewiness that make you look like you have good skin. I looked like I just pasted plastic on my face. This is definitely not the doing of my BB cream as I had never have issue with it before.
Thankfully, just as with applying the jelly pack naked on my face, the shine on my face goes away after 20 minutes or so and I can leave my house without looking like Barbie doll (referring to the plastic-y look, not the prettiness).
I am probably so overwhelmed by the tackiness that its moisturizing effects, if any, is underwhelming. Much less the firming effect. Amongst its claims, the only apparent one is the pore-smoothing effect.
I have large pores to begin with, so I cannot say that it has made my pores disappear altogether. But the effects are commendable.
I have used this as a sleeping pack too. Nothing extraordinary happened either. I do not wake up to especially hydrated or plump skin the next morning.
Until now, I am still not sure what I would use this jelly pack as – moisturizer, primer or sleeping pack. It leaves me with a very complex kind of feeling towards it. I would not say I dislike it. Perhaps disappointed is a more appropriate word.
I do so much want to like it because it has all the claims that I hope a product can do for my skin. But I cannot help feeling perplexed over its application, not to mention the lack of the much raved results on me. And I definitely am unable to relate to its objective of being developed for busy on-the-go women.
When I do use this nowadays, what I do is to squeeze a little amount at a time and pat on my face bit by bit. It does help in reducing the tackiness. I have to say I am relieved that I bought the smaller size. I do not think I will be repurchasing.
The texture and application will take some practice and getting used to. If you are able to get over this, I do think that there must be something right about this product to have garnered so much attention and fans that warrant a try.
