[REVIEW] JAYJUN Real Water Brightening Black Cream

JAYJUN Real Water Brightening Black Cream Review:

I came upon this cream while browsing on Yestyle, and decided to give it a try since it was on sale. I’ve had a good history with Jayjun’s sheet masks so I was curious as to whether their skincare line was just as good.

+ The cream claims to provide dry and rough skin with intensive moisture and nutrients to make it resilient.

+ It is also supposed to be a functional whitening product that is suitable for all skin types.

My Skin Type: Combination, acne-prone

JAYJUN Real Water Brightening Black Cream Review:

It comes in a fancy looking, but albeit bulky jar, which would make it difficult to take while travelling. For hygienic reasons, I usually like my moisturizers in a tube, but some creams do come with a spatula. Unfortunately, this one did not come with one.

It’s not as light and watery as my combo skin likes so I usually only use it on particularly windy or dry days or nights where my skin needs some extra occlusive and emollient protection.

JAYJUN Real Water Brightening Black Cream Review

The cream is chok-full of emollients and antioxidants such as squalane, black currant seed oil, adenosine and niacinamide, however I find that it does not deliver much in terms of hydration. Looking through the ingredient list, a good portion of it is just plant extracts, but I spotted sodium hyaluronate a.ka. hyaluronic acid further down the list. While it is a one of the most potent hydrating ingredient in skincare, it is more than half way down the list so its percentage would be very small.

JAYJUN Real Water Brightening Black Cream Review

The texture of this cream is somewhat thick, so I prefer to mix a drop of two of serum/ampoule or oil to give it a really smooth and more spreadable application. I especially like adding one or two drops of rosehip oil, which gets the texture just, right and boosts its antioxidant and emollient properties.

In the couple of weeks that I have been using this cream, I have not been able to see any really noticeable brightening effect that my current regime already did not give, but does do a good job at moisturizing and hasn’t broken me out. I use a little less on my t-zone and instead use it mostly on my u-zone that makes the skin feel plump and moisturized after it sinks in.

I would probably not repurchase this cream. There was no particular wow factor about it that blew me away nor did I have any particular feeling towards it. Also, I was able to purchase it at around 20 AUD on Yestyle but it seems to no longer be in stock.

The official website and Masksheets carry it around at almost double the price so I would not think its worth it’s worth repurchasing given the increased price.

I would not recommend this cream if your skin is on more of the oily side as there are much more lighter and comfortable creams than this one. For dry skin types, you might want to give it a go if you don’t mind the price.
