The new version of the famous Dear, Klairs Supple Preparation Toner is finally here! And I am so excited to try it since I do know the popularity of the original version of this toner is no joking. Actually, I had a plan to try the original version few months ago but two friends said that the original version caused breakouts on their sensitive skin, and that’s because of the essential oils content in the ingredients list. Well, I guess some of us have a same unpleasant experience with the original version, and many people out there do.
Seemed like Dear, Klairs heard their fans shouted out about that issue and, finally, they recreated their famous toner to Supple Preparation Unscented Toner. Basically, this toner is same and as great as the original version, but it’s fragrance-free. It’s made without essential oils thus all of us with all skin types (even the sensitive one) can enjoy it without worry. It is Dear, Klairs Supple Preparation Toner version 2, The Unscented!

Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner Review:
I got the box with dents everywhere due to the shipping (and it looks very ugly on photos, hhaha). Anyway, its outer box reminds me of any products from Innisfree. The cardboard has a bit rough texture and I think it can be recycled and eco friendly, but there is no statement about that, though. This box is dominated with purple color and comes with full information about the product itself in English and Korean.
The bottle of the toner is actually not as big as I thought, it is travel friendly for 180 mL toner. It is made from a clear plastic and they put a purple label on it. Even the label is full of information about the product, so I don’t need to worry if I lost the box as I can read all the information on the bottle.
They completed this lovely package with a screw up cap which is very safe for a liquid product. Oh, I just love that Dear, Klairs gives two seals for this toner. One is on the box and the other is placed on the bottle. Great. Now we are very sure that the product we just bought is brand new.
I don’t know why but I kept thinking this toner would have a kind of gel consistency. But in fact, it is more liquidy than I thought. Hence the small hole on its bottle is useful to help us controlling how much product we want to take out. This toner is a little bit runny and very lightweight. It is easy to apply, glides smoothly and becomes more watery when spread out onto skin.
But my most favorite is the cool sensation it gives to my skin. This is truly a big “Yay!” point for me as I live in a tropical country. Here, something with cooling sensation is always good.
The main focus of this Supple Preparation Unscented Toner is the fragrance-free feature. But honestly, I can’t say that this toner is fully odorless. It’s not like when you smell water (which has no scent). This toner still has scent, but not any scent from fragrance or essential oils. It just smells like anything in its ingredients. I don’t know how to describe it, LOL.
Simply, you will easily know it is not water when you sniff it, but you can’t find something like floral, citrus or other scents as well. You know, it is unscented but doesn’t mean it’s odorless. They just didn’t add fragrance and essential oils, so it still has its natural scent from the ingredients. Ah, wait! Yeah, it smells like Hadalabo Gokujyun Ultimate Moisturizing Lotion! They are very similar.
Just to make sure, I searched the ingredients of the original version and, yes, indeed they exclude some ingredients for the unscented version. Here are some components that are not included in the unscented version. Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil.
See? There are no essential oils anymore and it means this toner becomes more friendly for sensitive skin, like mine. And I couldn’t be happier as this toner also contains my favorite Centella Asiatica Extract which is good to treat my blemishes. Besides, I just searched and found that the other main ingredients are interesting. Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan and Lipidure are very great to keep our skin hydrated.
This toner absorbs pretty quickly and its cool sensation soothes my skin nicely. It hydrates my skin and leaves a supple finish which is not dewy but not matte too. For my oily skin, this toner is a bit too rich (as its consistency is thicker than water), but I found a solution for that issue.
At first, I applied this toner with cotton pad but it became a bit sticky especially on my T-zone and needed long time to fully absorb (I guess I applied too much product, eh?). Then I changed the method and applied only a right amount with my palms. So far, it feels better.
Dear, Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner doesn’t make my skin feel greasy at all. The smooth effect is not that much but it does work as a real preparation toner. It soothes, hydrates and makes my skin supple and fresh. When I layered it with my next skincare (serum or essence), this toner is still very friendly and doesn’t cause blemishes on my sensitive skin.
This unscented toner works amazingly and thankfully it doesn’t irritate my skin. I will recommend Dear, Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner for all skin types since it is lightweight and not oily. On the other hand, it also provides high hydration onto skin. When your skin feels supple after using this toner, so it will be ready for the next step in your skincare regime.
However, I can not fully compare the original with this unscented toner as I haven’t tried the original version. But from all reviews I read, both of them are amazing and have same result. The difference is just on their scent. So, if the essential oils are acceptable on your skin and you like aroma compounds from them, go with the original version.
But otherwise, if you are looking for a great toner without fragrance and essential oils for your sensitive skin, this unscented version would be the best choice.
