[REVIEW] La Roche-Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare Review:

La Roche-Posay is a famous drugstore brand from France. Their products are claimed by dermatologists and are tested on sensitive skins. And that’s the reason why I gave this one a try.

There was one time that I got a horrible breakout because of cosmetic allergy (poor me) and I decided to go to a dermatologist. She gave me an antibiotic liquid and warned that it would dry my skin. And you know, my skin was really really sensitive at that time, so she recommended me to use the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare to gently moisturize my skin. The name of this products may seem really weird to be honest however it does describe itself pretty exactly. We will get to that!

From La Roche-Posay Website:

“Intolerant normal to combination skin.

Excellent tolerance tested on 512 patients

Its formula concentrated in La Roche-Posay thermal spring water soothes the tight, burning, pulling sensations found in intolerant skin. Its soft, fresh formula penetrates easily to restore skin comfort. Strict formula charter, with a minimum number of ingredients to limit allergy risks. Fragrance-free, preservative-free, paraben-free. Non-comedogenic.”

Yah, that’s what they claimed, sounds really promising, right?

Aqua / Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isocetyl Stearate, Squalane, Glycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, Pentylene Glycol, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Cetyl Alcohol, Peg-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Acrylates/c10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hydroxide

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare Review:

Being a pharmacy skincare, its packaging is not quite stand out and it looks like a tube of medication cream (in fact, it really it!) This moisturizer is small and travel-friendly. If you are looking for something that looks fancy, this won’t be the one. However, quality is much appreciated than appearance, right? Let’s see!

I have to say that this moisturizer is a life-saver to me! My skin was really bad at the time I started using this, it’s itchy, full of acne and redness and even dry patches (a lot of them). Now, my skin is still not pretty, but thank goodness, no more acne and dry patches!

I used to have really oily skin when I was in Vietnam. When I moved to the Netherlands, my skin changed to combination skin (oilier in the summer and drier in the winter, yeah I know my life is hard). Still, I was really afraid that thick moisturizer would clog my pores and more acne would appear.

However, this product has a really nice texture, it is not gel but definitely not cream either. It is super light-weight and blends out gorgeously.

When I first apply, it gave me an instant soothing effect. My skin is calmed and not itchy, like right away! I have been using this for around 3 months and my skin is always hydrated and smoothed even the weather outside is always at minus degrees.

My breakout was clear and this moisturizer did not irritate my skin to cause more acne! And I can feel my skin got better, no more hypersensitive so this product really did “protect” my skin as it claims.

If you want to reach for some moisturizer which will only hydrate, sooth and protect your skin, this is totally awesome. This product line also has one richer moisturizer for Dry to Very Dry skin, TOLERIANE RICH Soothing Protective Cream (make sure you choose the right one that fits your skin type).

I highly recommend this for people who has problem with sensitive skin or allergy, just give it a try. But if you want something that will plump your skin, have brightening or anti-aging effect, then no, this is not the one.

It is fragrance-free, paraben-free so it should be suitable for irritated skin like mine. However, it has Cetyl Alcohol and Dimethiconal, so if you are allergic to those ingredients, this is not a wise choice.

Although I love this one, I will have to consider about repurchasing it. I might opt for another moisturizer that have a bit of brightening effects (thank you, post-breakout pigmentation). But if I have to recommend something that is super gentle on your skin, I would definitely say this!

  1. I love La Roche Posay and this review made me miss it so much! Here it’s so expensive that I can only get it when I go to Europe… But I’ll definitely ask a friend to bring me this when they visit <3
It seems like a simple moisturizer to /just moisturize/ but since I usually focus my "goodies" in the toner and essence step it seems like I would enjoy this

    • Totally agree that it is much cheaper in Europe than in other areas 😀
And yeh, this stuff works amazingly as a simple moisturizer, no more no less!
