[REVIEW] Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser

Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser Review:

I received this Laneige Fresh Calming product when I applied for VIP membership in Aritaum store in Korea. For those who don’t know, the store is selling multi-brand beauty products of Amore Pacific such as Laneige, IOPE, Mamonde, and so on. Anyway, The Fresh Calming line comes with four set of products including the cleanser, toner, morning mask and serum.

The key ingredients for the Laneige Fresh Calming line are litchi (lychee) extract to sooth skin and deep seawater to give moisture barrier. The line is specialized for those with combination oily skin, where the skin looks oily but actually lack of moisture inside. So, the product claims to balance the problem that usually occurred at the young skin of 20-25 age. I was running out of face cleanser that time so even though my skin type and the age range are not match I tried this product. Also, it is said as a deep cleanser that removes sebum while hydrates, cleanses, soothes, and purifies skin. Sounds like a bunch of good deals. I’m in! The actual price of gel cleanser KRW 20,000 for 230 ml bottle.

My Skin Type: Normal, not oily but blemish-prone, rather large pores in T-zone including blackheads.

Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser Review:

The product packaging is very comfortable: a pump dispensing type bottle! Thus you can just let it sit on its place and simply press the pump to get an exact amount needed every time you wash your face. Brilliant! Oh, there is no cap. The first time to use it, you have to rotate the pump according to the indicated direction to unlock and start pumping eagerly.

First time I thought the bottle was malfunction or something because it took quite an effort to make it finally dispense the gel. Actually because the bottle is quite tall and each pump is designed for dispensing only a little. Anyway, it was a funny experience.

Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser Review

The cleanser is colorless gel with a fresh fruity smell, perhaps from the litchi ingredients. Very refreshing. To my surprise, it actually foamed when mixed with water. Not so foamy like other usual soap but enough to cover the face. I tried the Etude House Olemon One Shot Morning Gel Cleanser previously and was not foaming at all, so…

After washing face, it does well to maintain or add the moisture of my skin. I instantly noticed the difference of using this product compared to other facial wash where my face is not oily but also not dry for the whole day. I think the product does well of what it claims: balancing oil and moisture of skin.

It definitely would be a very good cleanser for those with sensitive skin and oily combination skin. However for me, the final skin condition is a little too dry for my liking. It didn’t make a sudden breakout to my skin, that typical problem of starting new facial care.

By the way, I use this gel cleanser in the morning if I want to have a gentler and milder care while the bubble deep cleanser from The Face Shop is preferable after outdoor activity since I have large pores.

Despite of its nice gentle performance, I probably will not repurchase the product. Not because it’s bad but perhaps this line is not for my skin type (nor my age, sigh).

However, I would highly recommend this to those with oily combination skin since I think it will do great to balance the moisture and natural oil of your skin.
