[Review] Missha Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Active Toner

Missha Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Active Toner Review:

I found this product as I was browsing for more hydrating toners because I was bored with my current ones. Right off the bat, I bought this product after doing some researching and saw the ingredient list. Plus, it was a Missha product and Missha has never let me down before with their skincare products, so I figured, why not?

According to Missha’s US website, it claims to do multiple things…

  • Contains Aqua-STEM to help create clear, moist skin.
  • Hydrating toner also provides brightening and vitalizing benefits.
  • Features the Triplex Aqua System which locks, absorbs, and stores moisture energy for 24-hour hydration.

On the actual bottle of the product, it makes other claims:

  • Intensive Moisturizing (with Australia Blue Mountain cave water containing natural energy).
  • Reinforcing Moisture Level (by delivering moisture to skin, making it moisturized and radiant).

These claims are intriguing with their colorful word choice. I was not sure what to think about them, but the word “hydrating” stood out to me, because this was the type of toner I was looking for.

Volume: 150ml

With its decent amount of product available, I expect this to last many months before reaching the end. I have been using mine for about two months (1x per day) and have only gotten through a quarter of the whole thing.

How to Use:

Apply appropriate amount after Boosting Essence. Using your hands, pat until the product is fully absorbed.

I personally use my hands for this product only because too much of it gets wasted when using cotton pads.

My Skin Type: Oily-Combo, Acne-Prone

Missha Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Active Toner Review:

Something interesting that I think I should point out first is the packaging of this product. On the MisshaUS website, the packaging looks different than the product being described here. For starters, there is no writing on the bottle the way mine has.

Secondly, the name of the product is slightly altered: the MisshaUS website labels this product as “Super Aqua Ultra Water-Full Active Toner” whereas mine is called “Super Aqua Ultra Waterful Active Toner.” I have confirmed that the two products are the same; their small differences are the result of where they were meant to be sent – their “original” destinations, so to speak.

Mine has Korean writing on the back because it was meant for South Korean recipients, whereas the MisshaUS design was meant for – you guessed it – English speakers in the United States. The name change might have more to do with the fact that “waterful” is not an actual word in English.

The same small types of differences occur with other Missha products too, such as with the Geumseol line, which MisshaUS labels as “Geum Sul” instead because it is easier to pronounce. So, I would not be surprised if this occurrence happened with other brands as well.

The packaging is simple; it is a deep blue and is made of sturdy glass. As for the cap, it is the simple twist on/off kind. The toner itself is clear and feels a bit thicker than water – more like a watery serum or essence. It goes on with a cooling sensation and a little goes a long way because it spreads very easily.

The product also absorbs fairly quick with no tacky feeling or residue left over.  It feels quite nice on my skin. It also smells amazingly fresh, and recalling that it apparently contains “Australia Blue Mountain cave water” in it, it makes me think of mountains and nature immediately upon smelling it. I just cannot get enough of this scent! It fades a little too quickly, in my opinion.

What stands out to me in its ingredient list are the following:

  • Niacinamide
  • Mineral Water
  • Sea Water

Niacinamide has skin-brightening properties, which is great to use if your skin is dull or if you have post-acne scars you are trying to fade. With it being the third ingredient, we can safely assume there must be a decent amount in the product, too.

Both the Mineral Water and Sea Water ingredients stood out to me because both are packed with essential vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to the maintenance of healthy, clear skin. As such, I feel good whenever I put this product on my face. I believe this product would work decently well for all skin types.

I say “decently well” because as much as I love everything else about this product, I have to come clean here and admit the fact that it made little changes in the quality of my skin. While I feel safe knowing it will not break me out, I am slightly disappointed in its performance as a hydrating toner, as you might recall, is the reason I even bought it in the first place!

It feels hydrating when I put it on and as it starts to absorb, sure, but unfortunately this effect does not seem to last like other hydrating toners I have tried. But even with that being said, I do give this product credit for maintaining my skin in its (now) better condition and have noticed my acne scars looking slightly lighter since using this product, too.

It is a safe product to try if you are new to the hydrating toner world and want something simple to use. In my opinion, it is actually a great product to start out with unless you happen to have more severe issues you would like to address that might require more than what this product provides.

I would rate this product 3.5/5.
