[REVIEW] MoonShot Face Perfection Balm Cushion | #201

Moonshot Face Perfection Balm Cushion Review:

Moonshot Cosmetics is YG Entertainment’s skincare and beauty brand that specializes in offering unique products that achieve a natural look, as seen on their most popular singers and performers. It is a mid-priced line with minimalist packaging and many of their products tout a 2-in-1 function to make them more useful in application. This is their second cushion they produced, using the same formula as their Face Perfection Balm Foundation, only in a cushion compact format. Currently YG’s newest girl group BLACKPINK is the face of this product, as the members are known for their dewy, flawless skin on stage.

I am a bit of a BLACKPINK fan and was curious to learn more about the brand after seeing the products and the advertisements. Because it’s a fairly new brand (launched October 2014), there are few retailers who offer the product without gouging you on shipping – luckily I was able to find a vendor who sold the compact close to regular retail price with a reasonable shipping fee. Unlike The Face Shop x MARVEL cushion I tried previously, I was unable to test swatches or color match in person – instead, I reviewed images of the product on the official site and selected the 201 shade which seemed the closest to my skintone. (It comes in three colors.)

Moonshot Face Perfection Balm Cushion | #201 Review:

I was excited to try this cushion, as it seemed promising for a fairly new brand. Unlike other cushions, Moonshot uses a mesh covering over the foundation product section of the cushion, which allows one to get a more even distribution of product on the cushion application when pressed.

This was the case when I first used the cushion to do a test swatch – the mesh “bounces” when the applicator is pressed against it and the product is loaded in a smooth, uniform manner onto the cushion.

Blending the product was much easier than The Face Shop cushion – a little extra smoothing with fingers in the forehead areas was all I really needed.

It took less time to melt with my skin – I’d say after 4 minutes my skin looked natural with a slightly dewy glow to it. The formula is not heavy and did not feel like I was wearing makeup. True to its claims, my skin felt hydrated and looked great.

I did not need to reapply as the foundation held up well in cooler and warmer weather changes. Even on the hottest day, I never looked too dewy. You can however, build up the coverage by reapplying whenever needed.

I did not notice any prominent fragrance in the foundation product, which I liked. Previous foundations and cushion compacts I’ve used were scented and it is great to use something unscented. At best there may be a light powder scent but it’s not noticeable.

I give this product a 5/5. Moonshot delivers on its claims and the product makes my skin look healthy and natural without weighing it down. It’s become fun to apply in the morning – I love the bouncing effect when the cushion applicator is pressed against the product.

I like that one can keep the compact and simply purchase a refill with a fresh sponge at a lower price versus buying a brand new package. Normal and dry skin types can use this product. If you are oily or prefer a more matte finish, I would either use a finishing powder to tone down the dewy look or avoid altogether.

  1. I tried one of their masks and I love it! Although I really don’t like YG and Blackpink are literally their only “natural makeup” group, they fit the image of the brand sooooo well. I kinda want to try more of their products after reading this!
