[REVIEW+SWATCHES] Moonshot Micro Settingfit Cushion 201 Beige

Moonshot Micro Settingfit Cushion 201 Beige Review:

When I went to Seoul last 2017, I was not as hooked on K-beauty as I am right now. I wasn’t familiar with must-try products except for those offered by road shop brands available in the Philippines like Etude House, Tony Moly, etc. Needless to say, I was really fascinated to see women of different ages (from teens waiting in line for a ride in Everland, ladies on their commute to work, and even grandmothers on the train towards hiking destinations) applying cushion. This made me want to get my hands on this magical compact which seems to be the secret behind the coveted Korean porcelain skin.

The first ever cushion I bought was from Laneige but found it too heavy and dewy for my liking (not at all suitable for the hot and humid weather we have). I ended up just using that one a few times and giving away the refill it came with. This bad experience didn’t discourage me to avoid cushions all together though.

On the contrary, it actually made me want to try out more brands to look for my perfect match. It was last year when an online shopping site had their crazy sale on Moonshot products. All their cushions were sold for only $9.99 which I thought was such a bargain so I grabbed that opportunity to get myself one.

Reading the description of the different kinds of cushions available from the brand, I decided that this Micro Settingfit one is the most ideal for my oily skin since it claims to have a matte finish which my oily skin can benefit from. It didn’t have a refill (unlike their Balm type cushion) which was quite a bummer but I still decided to purchase this one.

By the way, Moonshot is a very new brand for me. The only information I know about it is that it has affiliations with the entertainment company YG. I’m not really a K-pop fan anymore but I believe Black Pink is their current endorser. Who wouldn’t want to achieve Lisa’s perfect skin right?

Anyway, I’ve been using this cushion for months now and I’d like to share my experience and opinions about it. If you’re curious to know if I’ve finally found my perfect cushion, please read until the end. For now, here are some details about the product:

Packaging:

Most cushions I’ve seen come in very minimalistic packaging but this one is different. The actual container is the same as a typical cushion where you have a compact with a mirror, a separate place to hold the applicator sponge, and the sponge soaked with the product.

The main color of the packaging is black but on the top it has a holographic glittery design that I adore so much. It gives off a cool girl and edgy vibe. Another notable aspect when it comes to the product is the applicator.

Instead of a typical round shape, I would describe the one of this as a rounded tear shape where one side as a pointed part. This is super helpful in applying product in hard to reach parts of the face such as the corner of the eyes and nose. It is also really soft and doesn’t seem to soak up too much product. I’ve already washed it a couple of times and it still hasn’t shown signs of damage.

Shade:

Moonshot Micro Settingfit Cushion 201 Beige Review

The shade I got is 201 Beige which is a perfect match for me. It has a yellow undertone suitable for typical Asian complexions. It doesn’t oxidize on my skin unlike other base makeup I’ve used before. I believe that they offer three shades in this line (101, 201, and 301). I do hope they would come out with other shades to accommodate those with different complexions and undertones.

Scent:

Compared to the Laneige cushion I have previously tried, this one has a more pleasant scent. It has faint powdery floral smell that doesn’t linger after application. I’m sure people who are particular to scents in products would find this tolerable.

Texture and feel:

This cushion is by far the most lightweight I’ve used. It’s possibly because it has a matte finish (it’s actually more like a semi-matte since it does provide a bit of glow). It applies really thinly so you can choose what kind of coverage you want to have.

For everyday, I like just putting on one layer for a sheer coverage enough to even out my skin tone but for special occasions, two layers provide me with a medium coverage for a more perfect look.

Longevity and performance:

I’ve only tried using this for the whole day once (from morning till evening) and found that it holds well. At the end of the day, my make-up still looked decent despite the fact that I sweated a lot. It also helped control my oily skin which would usually look really greasy on my t-zone by the end of the day already. If you have normal to dry skin, you may opt not to set this with powder but those with oily skin should put on a bit of powder just to lock it in place.

If you’ve read until this point, please congratulate me because…I’ve finally found the perfect cushion for me. This cushion is everything I want on a base make-up: feels comfortable and lightweight, perfect shade for my skin tone, lasts long, and controls my oily skin!

I also love the fact that it contains a high level of sun protection. I highly recommend this to people with the same skin concerns as mine. And if you have a different skin type or concerns, I recommend you try out their other cushions as well because I’ve also read great reviews on those.
