My Scheming Snail Essence Hydrating Mask Review:
My Scheming, a notable sheet mask brand originating from Taiwan, is definitely not a new name if you are a skincare aficionado. In conjunction with that, it’s no wonder that this was actually one of the first sheet masks that I used when I started getting into Asian Beauty. Writing about it now gives me a sense of nostalgia, to be honest, but the question is… is it a fond sort of nostalgia or otherwise?

- Cucumis (Cucumber) Fruit Extract: Composed of 95% water, so has great hydrating properties.. Naturally cooling which helps soothe sensitive and/or irritated skin.
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Best known to be cooling and soothing, and also helps heal wounds or inflamed skin. Also has antioxidant properties so provides anti-oxidant benefits. Consists of 99.5% water.
- Yeast Extract: Is a mixture of flavonoids, sugars, vitamins, and amino acids. Contains a high concentration of antioxidants, hence has great anti-aging benefits.
- Sodium Hyaluronate: Hydrating; a humectant which (ideally) draws H2O from the surroundings into the skin.
*There is no outright Snail Extract listed in the ingredients list above, but it might be included under Glycoproteins. However, with a friend’s help, Snail Extract is mentioned on the back in Chinese just above the English ingredients list. But I could be mistaken. This product also contains Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) which may cause irritation for some.
How to use:
- After cleansing, even out skin using a toner. Take the mask out of its package, unfold, and place the sheet on the face.
- Rest comfortably for 10-20 minutes and remove the mask.
- Remove the mask, and let the skin absorb the remaining essence by gently patting the skin.

My Scheming Snail Essence Hydrating Mask Review:
Opening the packet of the sheet mask, I was pleased to note that there was not much of a distinct scent, which is heaven sent for sensitive-nosed folks such as myself. In terms of the mask material, it claims to be made of silk (I’m guessing, based on the range name) however it’s more on the cotton/tencel side, but I could be mistaken.
It also comes packed with a plastic perforated backing, which makes for easier unfolding, but could be annoying to adjust onto the face. But here’s the catch: it’s annoying mostly because the actual sheet mask is made of such thin material.
So really, it’s probably a negligible complaint as the sheer thinness of the mask is what enables the essence to absorb into the skin much more efficiently.
While masking, the mask felt nice and soothing, and there was no itchiness or irritation experienced. Despite the advised waiting time of 10-20 minutes, I left it on for a maximum of 30 as it was still soaked in essence.
After taking off the mask, I noticed that my previously dehydrated skin plumped up with hydration and that any noticeable redness was evened out considerably. My complexion also looked much healthier and brighter. There was minimal stickiness as well.
Also, as an additional note, although the mask was already drenched in essence as I took it out of the packet, I noticed that there was so much essence leftover in the packet after use. So much in fact that I ended up pouring it all into one of my travel bottles to use in my essence step the following days.
I can tell you that it works perfectly well in hydrating my skin without the signature stickiness of snail! In fact, the colourless essence borders on “drippy” – but not too much as to annoy, fortunately!
Overall, I’d probably rate this a 5/5 as there are no jarring faults for me to knock off any points. I remember originally rating it a 4.5/5 due to the not-quite-perfect fit and a general irritation of handling My Scheming silk sheet masks (especially since I was a beginner in the sheet mask world), but I’ve gotten quite used to it by now. Definitely one of my dependable skincare products which I’d always repurchase as long as it’s still accessible.
