[REVIEW] Pro 8 Cheongdam Stay On Gel Eyeliner 01 Black

Pro 8 Cheongdam Stay On Gel Eyeliner 01 Black Review:

Out of the various types of eyeliners, the gel type has always been my favorite. Pencils are great for a breezy, undone look, but they sometimes lack precision and always smudge way too easily on my oily eyelids. Liquid liners work well if you want a perfectly crisp winged look, but for me, they sometimes come off as too perfect, almost unnaturally so. A tiny pot of gel eyeliner is a happy medium for me, striking the perfect balance in the best of both worlds.

Pro 8 Cheongdam was not a brand that I had heard about, until I saw its Stay On Gel Eyeliner being used in one of Pony’s makeup tutorial videos. It glides on silky smooth with great pigment, and so I gave in to the temptation and bought it during my trip to Seoul. The brand is actually under Picasso — yes, Picasso as in the famed Picasso makeup brushes!

So, how does it hold up?

Pro 8 Cheongdam Stay On Gel Eyeliner 01 Black Review:

First off, this product does not come with a liner brush, unlike many other gel eyeliner pots that I have purchased. This may be a point of consideration if you do not have a liner brush, or were expecting one.

The product itself comes in a glass pot that is quite large and hefty (like the product’s price!) for the small amount of product that you are getting (considering that the actual compartment is only a tiny portion of the glass pot), although it will definitely last you a long time since you only need a small amount to complete your eye look.

This eyeliner comes in two classic shades: 01 in Black (the shade I own) and 02 in Brown — which is very standard and nothing out of the ordinary. The product itself is very creamy: one dip of the brush into the pot is more than enough for both eyes. In fact, I only dip the very tip of my brush into the pot and still have to brush the excess off the sides.

It also goes on very smoothly and very precisely (although I suspect that this also depends on the brush that you are using). What surprised me the most was its strong pigment — this is definitely a blacker-than-black eyeliner. Once it goes on, you can smudge it if you want to, but it sets very quickly and does not budge once it does so. The finish is a very natural skin-like one — nothing matte or glossy.

Probably the most important criterion is its longevity — how did it hold up? I am pleased to report that even on my very oily eyelids, it stayed on for a good nine hours without smudging, even without the use of an eyeshadow primer before application.

My cat eye maintained its sharp flick throughout the day without any fading, either. Most of it did come off very easily with my oil balm cleanser, but I did have to go in with a few cotton buds (or Q-tips) and swipe away the fading remains of my eyeliner with micellar water.

All in all, if you are just looking to experiment with a gel-type eyeliner, I would suggest maybe to start with something less expensive just to see whether you like this type of eyeliner (in my opinion, there are many roadshop brands that do very decent ones!) before moving on to this one, given its price.

However, if you are willing to invest in a strong, pigmented, and long-lasting gel eyeliner, this is the one. It has a steep price tag, but a little does go a long way, and this is a product that will serve you well.
