Shangpree Crystal BB Cream Review:
It is no wonder that the skincare and makeup industry is thriving. We gals (and probably even guys now) can just never get enough of them. We have stash of products lying around on the vanity top, but still on the search for others. And the brands ride on this consumerism, marketing their products with wonder claims.
So I could not help myself when I came across this Shangpree Crystal BB Cream while on my “web shopping” one day. Shangpree is the brand of a renowned luxurious spa in Korea which has been around for about 27 years. It offers its own line of skincare products and is especially known for its masks.
+ Provides a smooth, flawless finish while packing a serious skin care punch.

Shangpree Crystal BB Cream Review:
The BB cream comes in a red tube with a gold-colored twist cap. I think it is meant to look luxurious but I somehow do not take to the color. Beats me why I still bought it in the first place. It does make it easy to find amongst all other things in my cosmetic pouch though. What I do like is the small opening, making it easy to control the amount to dispense.
Shangpree Crystal BB Cream is marketed as a skincare cum makeup product, as you can see from the photo – “Special Multi-Action Skin Treatment & Makeup”. Doesn’t that sound good to kill two birds with one stone? Let’s take a look at the ingredients.
Although it is not labelled to offer sun protection, but you can see titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in the ingredient list. Both offers protection against UVA and UVB radiation. Looking further at the list, this BB cream does seem to offer quite some goodness. It has sodium hyaluronate for hydration, adenosine for anti-aging, arbutin for brightening and some plant extracts with antioxidant properties.
On the other hand, it does have quite a number of silicones in it. Silicones are common in makeup products because it makes application easy and gives a smooth finish. But it is increasingly getting disapproving look because they are said to clogged pores. I tried to read up on this and opinions are not exactly consistent. So it is really one own’s decision whether to avoid products with silicones.
My own take is to I ensure proper cleansing to minimize clogged pores and if I do break out from using the product after sometime, I will probably ditch it (even though it unfortunately meant waste of money).
Let’s move on to the application experience. It comes in only one shade, and would be suitable for fair skin tone. It has this auto-colour correcting efficacy to match skin tone. As you can see from the swatch, the initial application went on pinkish but after a while, you can’t quite tell the difference from the next photo. But I am not sure how it will work for someone who is much more tanned.
It blends well so a little goes a long way. It gives a very smooth finish, which is not unexpected since it does contain silicones. The coverage however is rather light and did not do much for a couple of fading pimple marks I have, though it does minimize the pores and faint some red blotches on my sensitive skin.
It has a perfume-y scent that lingers for about half a day. I think it is rather nice. Those who are not into fragrance and may want to have a whiff at this before purchase to see if your nose agrees with it.
I tried using this with and without primer. My advice is the former. When without primer, the cream tends to settle into fine lines. You probably can see this from the swatch photo too that the lines on the left side of my hand are rather prominent.
The primer does lessen the accentuation of fine lines. In this aspect, I am in conflict because the lasting power of the cream is rather good. I am not sure if I want the coverage at the expense of bringing attention to the lines on my face at the end of the day.
I have used Shangpree Crystal BB Cream for about a month. Thankfully, it has not caused me to have a breakout. Otherwise, I have not really noticed any skin care benefits that came out of it. As it is rather pricey compared to other mass market Korean brands, I’ll probably still stick to it for now, until yet another lure comes along. After all, I think it does have quite some merits. This should be good for those with fairly good skin and want a natural finish.
