SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Review:
When talking about first treatment essence, the brand SK-II would definitely come to mind as it was one of the earlier skincare brands to carry FTE under its wings. SK-II is a luxury brand and there are a lot of glowing (pun intended) reviews about its Facial Treatment Essence (some even call it ‘Miracle Water’ or ‘Miracle Potion’), that claims to have more than 90% Pitera™. If you don’t already know, Pitera™ is SK-II’s signature natural bio-ingredient that is packed with vitamins, amino acids and minerals that will aid in transforming your skin to crystal clear, as well as boosting skin’s texture, radiance and firmness.
I first got this FTE from the SK-II Pitera™ Welcome Set, which also includes a mini size of SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion and SK-II R.N.A Power Radical New Age Cream. It is a great value for money trial set for those who wants to get a taste of the SK-II world, but not quite yet ready to splurge on their full-sized products.

How to use:
It is recommended to use this Facial Treatment Essence after toning the face with SK-II Facial Clear Lotion. There are a few ways that you can apply this FTE.
Soak a cotton pad with essence, then gently smooth and tap around your face and neck.
Pour essence onto palm (be careful as it is watery) and pat onto face and neck until absorbed.
Decant essence into spray bottle and spritz onto face.
Soak several thin cotton pads with essence and place it all over face to work as a DIY mask.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Review:
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence comes in a luxurious frosted glass bottle and a twisted silver cap. The texture is watery and it has a slight funky sour scent, which can be a bit disturbing for some people. It definitely has that ‘fermented’ smell to it. I have gotten used to the scent and it does not linger long anyway.
I use this after toning my face with SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion. I would normally pour the essence on my palm and pat the essence onto my face and neck using both of my hands (there is much less product wastage this way and a bottle can last way longer), but there are also times when I would opt to use a cotton pad instead.
I would then follow up with a serum and moisturizer. It absorbs easily and works well with the rest of the products in my skincare routine. The products that I apply after the FTE sink into my skin effectively.
I have not tried the spray and DIY masking method, so I cannot comment on that. But my sister who likes doing the masking method says it gives her skin a boost in radiance and makes her skin super soft (and obviously she finishes her bottle rather quickly lol!).
I personally have not used the Facial Treatment Essence without the Facial Treatment Clear Lotion; I always use both of the products together in my routine. Therefore I can’t say if the FTE works better in conjunction with the latter, or it works fine on its own.
I remember when I first started incorporating this Facial Treatment Essence into my routine about 4 years back. Before starting out my skin was dull, I had rough patches on my cheeks and bumpy skin around my chin. It took around 2 weeks of daily use for me to start seeing results.
My skin became more hydrated, radiant and so smooth that I could not stop touching it (bad habit, I know!). The rough patches were completely gone and my bumpy chin was smooth. It has since then become a staple in my skincare routine.
I did stray once and tried the COSRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence as it is said to be a dupe for the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence but it broke me out. So I went back to SK-II and have been using it until today, and I foresee it staying in my routine for a long time as long as my wallet allows it! Definitely a strong key player in keeping my mid-thirties skin healthy and plump.
I feel all skin types could benefit from this wonderful Facial Treatment Essence, but please avoid if you are sensitive to ferment or suffering from fungal acne. Don’t forget to always patch test!
