[REVIEW] Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence Mint Green SPF50+ PA++++

Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence Mint Green SPF50+ PA++++ Review:

I thought this product would be a nice replacement for my Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence in the sense that it provides gentle correction to even out the complexion, so I can save time by skipping CC cream. I have heard people raving about the original Tone Up Essence in lavender purple hue. So when Rohto released the mint green version this summer for redness-prone skin, I decided to give it a try to justify the hype.

Claims:

1. Defend against UV light and bring out your skin’s translucency. The mint green tint is ideal to even out redness from acnes.

2. Can be used for body and face

3. Resistant to water and sweat

Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence Mint Green SPF50+ PA++++ Review:

The packaging is pretty standard for sunscreens of its kind. This is a nice sunscreen. It comes in this cream-gel like texture that once blended out evenly, it will dry down in a beautiful silky semi-matte finish. But it really takes time. I do notice that because it is tinted, you need to blend it out very thoroughly to avoid weird white streaks.

My first try with this was such a complete failure that I totally wanted to give it up. When I tested it in the store, with just a teeny little bit on the back of my hand, it got blended effortlessly and beautifully.

However, the problem arose when I tried to put an “adequate” amount on my face. It seemed I applied so much that it wouldn’t dry down and I couldn’t blend it at all and I was left with a super shiny (greasy) and uneven face with very awkward white streaks.

Fortunately, I have eventually figured out how to make it work. So, you need to build it up. Start with a small amount, lay down the first layer, take time to blend it out, pat it down, let it set a bit, then go on with the next layer.

Once the previous layer is laid down beautifully, the next layer shouldn’t cause you any problem. And I do not think that it is a good idea to apply this sunscreen on damped skin because it really took me forever to blend.

Once it is on your face, the tone up effect is there but it is very gentle and complementing even for my medium skin tone. It’s by no means the typical ghostly white cast. While it did even out the redness from my acnes, I don’t think you should expect much from the coverage.

Upon application, the finish may be a bit shiny (but not sticky or tacky) as you can see from the photo, but the shine will fade away after 20-30 minutes. After that, it wore nicely on me for the next 3 hours without setting with any powder.

After 3 hours, as for my oily combination skin, it started to get quite shiny again in the T-zone area but I could totally fix this by applying powder (an SPF powder may be a good idea to reapply your sunscreen).

This is a decent sunscreen indeed. However I will not repurchase this because it takes way too much time and patience to be properly applied. In fact, I have found out that applying Biore UV Aqua Rich Essence + Sugao CC cream is much faster than applying this sunscreen alone.

Well, maybe my skin is too dark to be corrected, I think it will be applied even more beautifully on lighter skin tone. But to be honest, I can see why this product is loved so much.
