[REVIEW] Skinfood Fresh Fruit Juice Extraction Blush 04 Berry Beet Juice

Skinfood Fresh Fruit Juice Extraction Blush 04 Berry Beet Juice Review:

Powder blush, at least for me, can sometimes come off as fake-looking and patchy, especially during the dry winter seasons. Plus, it needs to be applied with a brush, which requires the extra time and effort. As someone who literally only has five minutes to get ready, every second counts.

Having heard that liquid blush could give you a natural flush, lit from within, that actually lasts all day, I was immediately curious as to whether these were true. When I scoured the Internet for affordable, skin-friendly liquid blushes, the first product that came up was Skinfood’s Fresh Fruit Juice Extraction Blush, a watery blush enriched with various fruit extracts to create a natural rosy look. When I eagerly swatched all the shades at the closest Skinfood store, I immediately fell in love. Without further ado, here is my review!

Skinfood Fresh Fruit Juice Extraction Blush 04 Berry Beet Juice Review:

This liquid blush comes in four different colors:

01 Fig and Plum, a neutral peach shade with hints of beige;

02 Active Carrot, the resident orange blush of the bunch,

03 Mellow Raspberry, a muted coral-pink shade;

04 Berry Beet Juice, a cool-toned pinkish-purple shade.

Having swatched all of them, I decided in the end to go with 04 Berry Beet Juice, as it was a shade that can’t quite be found anywhere else. On my yellow-toned skin, the purple tones in this blush cancel out the dull, yellow tones of my skin, and gives me just the most natural-looking, healthy flush of color.

At first glance (or first hold), the blush seemed quite bulky. With regards to packaging, it comes in a cylindrical bottle that is quite hefty in weight and large in diameter, so it might not be the best compact product to bring for travel.

That being said, the color of the packaging corresponds accurately to the color of the blush, making it easy to distinguish between the different shades available. Unfortunately, it is opaque, making it impossible to see how much product is left.

This blush has a brush applicator for easy application of the product — it’s just like painting with watercolors! It also has a very fruity smell as per the “juice extract” in the blush, so if you’re one to stay away from any and all fragrances in beauty products, you might want to think twice about this one.

This blush surprised me at first as it looked very opaque. However, it blends out amazingly well, so overdoing it is almost impossible. Its result is a very natural-looking flush of color that really mimics one’s natural flushed look.

The consistency is quite thin and runny, but even so, the pigmentation is definitely not compromised, so a little goes a long way!

The finish, even on my oily skin, is simply natural, and it stays that way for the entire day, never getting overly greasy like many other liquid blushes I’ve tried.

In the winter season when my skin borders on combination-dry, this is my go-to blush because of its hydrating properties — it does not look powdery nor emphasize any dry patches.

As for staying power, I can strongly speak for its long-lasting properties, even without powder! Having worn this over my foundation and without any powder for a good 16 hours, running around in both humid outdoor and air-conditioned indoor settings, this blush wore extremely well throughout the day, with minimal fading — even at the end of the day, the blush was still noticeable.

Skinfood suggests blending with fingers; having tried it both with a brush and with just fingertips, I can definitely agree — the latter gives a very natural finish that won’t leave any streaks or patches.

It is extremely buildable, even after three or four layers, it still looks very natural. With regards to reapplication, it is possible, however, if you have oily skin like me, reapplying the blush without blotting away any excess oils first may result in the blush, as well any base makeup, sliding off. Also, it requires clean fingertips, which can be especially inconvenient, especially if you’re out.

Overall, I love this blush. At home, I’ve been reaching for it nearly every single day for the past six months. It plays so well with all my other base makeup products, and blends like a dream come true.

I will definitely be repurchasing, and would definitely recommend this to anyone on the hunt for a solid liquid blush with a natural look and finish!
