[Review] The Face Shop The Therapy Secret Made Moisturizing & Soothing Facial Mask

The Face Shop The Therapy Secret Made Moisturizing & Soothing Facial Mask Review:

This wash-off mask was bought on impulse but it turned out to be great! I was really stressed out from work one day and decided to walk around the mall and went into The Face Shop’s store (hello retail therapy!). I got a couple of sheet masks as well as this facial mask because the beauty consultant recommended it as she was using it as well. I have not tried any of The Face Shop’s products before so I was quite excited to test it out. One of TFS’s product ambassador is Korean singer and actress Suzy. She has flawless skin sans makeup so let’s check out how this product fared!

Claims:

This product claims to be moisture-intensive in order to provide rich nourishment to the skin. The flower petals moisturise the skin while the rose petal extract contained in it provides a soothing and calming feeling. In addition, the oats, lavender flower, wild rose and sweet basil are what contributes to its superior moisturising properties.

My Skin Type : I have oily, acne-prone skin but with a dehydrated base. This means that I get breakouts if my skin is too oily and also if my skin is too dry *rolls eyes* Hence, I always keep my skin well hydrated so that it does not produce too much oil and cause me to breakout.

The packaging of this product comes in a simple box and the mask is filled in a tub with a screw cap. The small lid inside helps protect the product from dirty hands and contamination. The packaging is sufficient and not over-the-top. I like how simple it is ☺

Upon opening the lid, the product has a faint and pleasant floral scent. It makes me visualise being in a spa, having a nice massage while the peaceful sound of the ocean surrounds me. The product is simple to apply and has a slightly watery and jelly texture.

There are bits of ingredients inside which I suppose are the plant extracts. It is orange-gold in colour and I can’t emphasize enough how wonderfully calming it smells!

I applied a layer of about 2mm on my skin and the texture was smooth and consistent. Don’t worry about the bits inside the mask, it blends right into the entire mixture and I had no difficulties applying it on my face. When I initially used it, I thought the essence would be slightly absorbed, but after 20 minutes, the texture just turns from watery to gooey and sticky.

Upon application, my skin felt so cooling and soothing that I would have fallen asleep if not for the fear that the jelly would stain my pillowcase! Once again, I can’t reiterate enough how good it smells!

I usually leave it on for 30 – 40 minutes despite the instructions saying 10 minutes and have not experienced any side effects so far (apart from soft skin!).

After that, I washed the jelly off with lukewarm water. It is relatively easy to wash off given that I already had it on for 40 minutes. After drying my face, my skin felt plum, smooth and nourished. I couldn’t stop touching my face!

The product does what it claims in terms of soothing and nourishment. However, if you are looking to calm redness or remove hyperpigmentation, this product may not be the best (it does not claim to do any of that, either).

I would consider this a mid-level nourishing wash-off mask if you’re looking for some budget TLC. I followed up with my usual routine of toner, serum, essence, and moisturiser (remember to apply sunblock if you’re planning to go out afterwards!).

I have been using this for 6 months now and the 2 best things about this product is its soothing sensation as well as its floral smell. I am a sucker for products with natural plant and floral ingredients so needless to say, I love this product! I use it twice a week, and it is suitable for all skin types because it is so gentle on the skin (to be safe, please do a patch test first). For people with dry skin, perhaps you could use it on alternate days a week or once every 2 days.

Sometimes, I have dry hands and I apply a thin layer on, washing it off after 30 minutes. My hands do feel moisturised and the effects last for about a day and a half.

I love this product and I would definitely repurchase because it is gentle and moisturising. However, if you are looking for a mask that deals with blackheads but moisturises concurrently, I would recommend Annie’s Way Honey Deep Moisturizing Mask.

    • Thanks! Yepp this mask is quite good for hydrating purposes. My sister had an allergic reaction from using one of TFS’s sheet masks though, so do remember to check the ingredients first!
