[REVIEW] The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Review:

I love chemical exfoliation. It truly has been a skincare routine game changer for me (I even rarely do physical exfoliation previously). This step has helped to even my skin tone, tackle pimples and pigmentation, gives a brighter complexion and smoother skin.

After discovering the wonderful world of chemical exfoliation, I began searching for more to try. I already have an AHA treatment in my routine, so I wanted to add in an exfoliating toner to be used in rotation with the treatment. And of course, I could not help but seeing people raving about The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution almost everywhere on Instagram. With the very affordable price tag, big size and low pH formula, of course I was so intrigued to give it go!

From The Ordinary Website:

“Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 7% toning solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in color seasonally and this color variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. The formula is further supported with inclusion of ginseng root and aloe vera for both visible radiance and soothing benefits.”

The solution itself is watery, clear with an orange tint (but is clear when dispensed on cotton pad), and has a mild sweet smell. Its scent is quite similar to The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution.

Prior to using this, I was already using the cult favorite Pixi Glow Tonic, but I was not impressed by the product at all. It felt too mild for me and I hardly saw any results, plus I was not too fond of the strong perfumey scent of it. So I was really hoping that The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution would give me the results that I wanted.

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Review

This exfoliating toner feels gentle on the skin and only stings when there is an open wound (popping pimples is my weakness). I find the scent quite pleasant as it is pretty mild and smells naturally sweet, not the artificial sweet kind of way.

I find that if I pour too much product on the cotton pad, my skin would remain tacky for quite a while. Therefore I try not to be too generous when dispensing it (I know it is hard not to because of the big bottle!), and I find it works just as good, only that it won’t leave my skin too tacky.

And what is the verdict, you ask? The verdict is….. I love it! This stuff is amazing. It is gentle yet strong enough to do its job. I use this in rotation with The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% and I did not experience any irritation. My skin texture is smoother and complexion is brighter.

I am happy I decided to give this product a try. I will definitely repurchase once I have run out (which will take a long time due to its huge bottle!).

I would recommend The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution to those who are looking for gentle yet effective exfoliating toner while not breaking the bank.

I feel all skin types would benefit from using this, as AHA helps to tackle a lot of skin concerns. It may be a bit strong if you are new to chemical exfoliation so I would suggest to start off slow, perhaps using only a few times per week at first and slowly build up.
