[REVIEW] The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution Review:

The Ordinary brand has made a huge wave in the skincare industry for its super affordable products, and every skincare addict would own at least one The Ordinary item. I wanted to jump on The Ordinary bandwagon as well (don’t want to miss out on the hype, now do we?), but I was overwhelmed with all of the products! I didn’t even know where to start looking. I did not want to go with the cult favourite just because of the rave.

I wanted to get something that I really need in my routine. So I started evaluating my skin concerns and it seems like I already have the products to address those issues, except for a spot treatment that I have yet to find one that actually works. I don’t exactly have acne problem but of course I do get occassional clogged pores and hormonal breakouts when it is the time of the month. Therefore I decided to jump on The Ordinary bandwagon starting with the Salicylic Acid 2% Solution, which also happens to be my first ever BHA product.

Claims:

(From The Ordinary Website)

“Salicylic Acid is a beta hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 2% treatment solution helps exfoliate the inside walls of pores to fight the appearance of blemishes and for better visible skin clarity with continued use.”

1. Use in the AM and/or PM

5. Do not rinse off.

6. Continue with the rest of skincare routine.

My Skin Type: Normal/ Dry skin

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution Review:

This salicylic acid solution comes in a frosted 15ml bottle with a pipette. The texture of this solution is clear and watery-gel like. When it is rubbed or patted onto the skin, it tends to get a bit foamy, like you are rubbing on damp soap. But it dries down clear and slightly tacky.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution Review

Though this is my first BHA product, I did not experience any tingling or irritation from my usage. And I find it gentle enough to be used daily (but of course, your milleage may vary). When I use this on congested areas, I would apply a thin layer and rub it in.

And when I use this only on my breakouts, I just dab a small amount of product on it. It does not take long to dry down and so far I have no problems layering the rest on my skincare products, and even makeup goes nicely on top of it.

But this solution can make some of the areas I applied to turn a bit dry (and I already have dry skin to begin with), so I just made sure to slather a generous layer of moisturizer on those dried areas.

After continuous usage, I find that this salicylic acid solution brings some congestion to the surface, calms down painful brewing spots (some even disappeared completely without ever showing its ugly head), and helps in preventing clogged pores. However, it pretty much does nothing to speed up the healing of a pimple once it comes to a head.

I was initially unimpressed (or rather quite impatient), but I have definitely changed my mind after noticing the positive results after prolonged usage. I defnitely will repurchase, in fact I just placed an order for the bigger 30ml bottle!

I would recommend The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution for every skin type, because it is a gentle exfoliant and is a good product to have in your skincare cabinet to help with congestions and acnes.
