[Review] The Saem Fresh Bamboo Soothing Gel 99%

The Saem Fresh Bamboo Soothing Gel 99% Review:

After trying The Saem’s 99% Fresh Jeju Aloe Soothing Gel, I saw this product and wanted to give it a try. After all, I do love a good soothing product because I experience acne rather often. Ultimately, seeing that it had “natural salicylic acid” is what got me interested in this product (plus, it was cheap considering the large amount of product available).

The Saem Fresh Bamboo Soothing Gel 99% Review:

As mentioned earlier, this product is said to contain natural salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a form of BHA, or beta-hydroxy acid, a popular acne-fighting ingredient found in many products. In the past, I had good experiences with products containing salicylic acid, so I had high hopes for this product. It definitely has some potential with its formulation, considering it has the following:

  • Phyllostachys Nigra Extract (99%), or “black bamboo,” the main and featured ingredient of this product which has anti-inflammatory effects
  • Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, another popular ingredient found in acne products due to its anti-inflammatory effects
  • Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, a moisturizing component containing many vitamins and essential fatty acids that benefit the quality of one’s skin

Something about the ingredient list bothers me though: why did they decide to add the Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract? Surely, the scent of this product smells amazing due to this ingredient, but for a soothing product, I was surprised to find this listed.

In theory, using it in a very diluted preparation would be great for sore muscles, but using this on your face can actually be irritating. And seeing as the skin of our faces is much thinner than the skin found elsewhere on our body, I would be wary when it comes to seeing this ingredient in skincare products.

That being said, I have not experienced any “irritation” per se. Rather, if used regularly, I found that this product begins to dry out my skin and cause flaking. So, once I stopped using this product daily and every few days instead, I saw a better outcome. I should also note that my skin is not particularly sensitive either, so I was surprised that I had any issue at all.

Still, I think this product would probably be much better suited to those with oily skin looking for a cooling, anti-inflammatory formulation to use during the summer.

Due to the large volume of product, this is likely to last you many, many months. I have had mine for over six months as of now, barely making a dent in it.

I enjoy the packaging for this product, because it comes in a cute bamboo-shaped tube with a non-twist cap. The product is also easy to dispense – simply squeeze the tube!

I do not foresee myself repurchasing this, only because I feel that snail products work better for my skin and its soothing abilities, but this is a versatile product. It can be used to moisturize your face and your body, or simply as a spot treatment on acne.

Another idea would be to use this product on your legs as an aftershave since it does have natural salicylic acid in it, which would prevent any ingrown hairs. To top things off, it also smells shower fresh and does not have a sticky or tacky feeling after it has been absorbed.

I would rate this product 3.5/5.
