Tsaio Witch Hazel Oil Control Mask Review:
I am an advocate for natural acne and skincare treatment. I did not realise how wonderful witch hazel was until I started using My Beauty Diary’s Witch Hazel Oil Control Essence Mask. Pimply me was so excited that I decided to do some research on the benefits of witch hazel. Due to its astringent properties, it is one of the most effective natural treatment for acne, and can even fight against skin cancer. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties help protects against free radical damage from stress, poor diet and pollution. Is witch hazel awesome or what?!
I got this Tsaio sheet mask last Christmas and have kept it in my mask stash because I was always buying new masks to try. This gem was hidden under dust and it is time for it to shine.
A little bit about Tsaio: Tsaio is a Taiwanese skincare brand that uses high quality natural ingredients in their products. This includes ingredients such as ginseng, acerola cherry, and chamomile liquorice.
-This mask has a delicate texture which allows for the essence to be fully absorbed to give a well-balanced and moisturising effect on the skin.
-The witch hazel ingredient in the mask also claims to contain various natural plant extracts like tannic and kaempferol to provide oil balancing, soothing and firming benefits.
Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Zinc PCA, Propylene Glycol(&)Arctium Lappa Root(Burdock Root) Extract (&) Nasturtium Officinale Flower/Leaf Extract (&) Plantago Lanceolata Leaf Extract (&) Hibiscus Abelmoschus (Hibiscus) Extract (&) Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Niacinamide, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 20, Methylparaben, Trisodium EDTA, Fragrance, Water
How to Use:
- After cleansing and toning, peel off the pearlescent paper and apply the sheet mask on your face (pop it in the freezer for a more refreshed feel!)
- Leave on for 15 – 20 minutes before removing the mask
- Massage gently with your fingers to facilitate absorption of the remaining essence
- Follow up with your usual skincare routine (you do not need to wash it off)
My Skin Type:
My skin is oily and acne-prone but with a dehydrated base. I am unsure if this is normal but my PMS starts about 2 weeks before which means I am pimply for about 6 months in a year GASP!!!! During the application of this sheet mask, I had 2 small whiteheads and a clogged pore.
Tsaio Witch Hazel Oil Control Mask Review:
The packaging looks normal, and it seems like they did not invest much on the design. Nonetheless, sometimes it is what’s on the inside that matters ☺ I only detected a slight sweet scent upon opening the packaging.
The sheet mask is extremely thin, almost like a 2-ply tissue paper. The texture was a little rough and papery, and when I spread the sheet mask out, I felt like it was going to tear at any moment. This one has to be handled with extreme care. Although it was papery thin, the fit was great.
I think this is probably one of the best fits out of all the sheet masks I have tried. I don’t know if this is attributed to my face shape or size, but I recommend cutting slits if you find that it is not too fitting. In addition, the adherence was great as well. It clung well to my skin, even on the sides of the nose and the corners of my face, which are usually the adherence-problem areas.
The mask had just the right amount of essence – I usually like it to be a tad dripping because then I’ll be assured that all the witch hazel goodness would seep into my face! In addition, there was still a considerable amount of essence left in the packet, which I kept in the refrigerator to be used afterwards to prolong my masking session.
I had the sheet mask on for 20 minutes before I reapplied the essence on my mask. I noticed that the essence was absorbed faster than other masks, which could probably be due to their delicate texture, as mentioned in their main features.
After taking off the sheet mask, I immediately noticed how dewy my skin was! It was also brightened and felt well-hydrated, at the level that I would like as it did not leave a tacky finish. The essence was absorbed into the skin well and only some light patting was required before I continued with my usual skincare routine.
I used this sheet mask at night before I went to bed and it left a soothing feeling. I slept knowing that my skin was well-hydrated and had enjoyed an awesome TLC session!
I am in love with this mask. It ties with Naruko’s Tea Tree Shine Control & Blemish Clear Mask. While Tsaio’s focused on improving and brightening my complexion, Naruko’s really did a great job in reducing my blemishes and in whitening my skin.
The only gripe I had with this mask was how thin and delicate the material was but its effects more than makes up for that one tiny dissatisfaction. My complexion was not only dewy, I think it aided in helping to unclog my pore as well.
It is frustrating but sometimes I get a hardened pus on my cheek (can anyone tell me why?!) and I do not squeeze it for fear of leaving a scar. The hardened pus came out on its own a day later.
The next day, my oily skin was well-balanced and smooth. It helps in balancing oil production as well. The effects lasted for 12 – 15 hours.
I am very happy with this hidden gem. It is great for oily and combination peeps as well as people who want to use it in the summer. It can be used in the day as well.
I would definitely repurchase more because I can’t help admiring how dewy my complexion was after using this mask. As a budget sheet mask junkie, the effects and the affordable price definitely makes this a HG for me.
